Hundreds of gaming enthusiasts are descending on the Big Apple this weekend for a Fortnite World Cup event. Fortnite creator Epic Games is hosting the three-day convention, which begins on Friday and ends Sunday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, and will see gamers play for a $30 million prize pool. Around 40 million players worldwide tried to qualify over 10 weeks following an online competition, CNN Business reported. However only 100 solo finalists have a shot at winning the huge cash prize at Flushing Meadows.

I’m a very avid video gamer. More of a classic gamer and collector, and I will say this kind of thing embarrasses me. I’ve never been ashamed of my hobby, but this kind of thing is pathetic to me, I don’t know what else to say about it.

I find no real world value in it. To me it’s a fun escape and a hobby, but I find it really harmful in a psychological sense for this to be perceived as a legitimate ‘trade’.

The best ones probably died of a PE on the flight to the World Cup.

Do you feel the same way about things like the recent World Cup of European footsie-ball?

It all comes down to how much advertisers can pay to push their products. They eould have $100 million paint drying events if enough people would watch it.

I heard a guy talking about these gaming events and he predicted the big ones will eventually surpass our Super Bowl in viewership and revenues.

I tried watching one competition where one team competed against another but I couldn't figure out what was going on other then they were running around trying to shoot each other with different stuff.

Another championship I watched briefly was a computer soccer game with a prize of tens of thousands of dollars. I didn't see what the attraction of that was either.

I’m having a hard time putting it in words. Humans and sports are as old as time. As conservatives, if you can find your niche and make a living, have at it. But, we should recognize that the modern video game world such as this, breeds leftism. These are kids, and some cases grown men, who have no skills other than wiggling a mouse around and pressing keys on a keyboard. This is tailor made to incubate a leftist mind. Even if they make money, they will think like a leftist. Most of the game producers/designers are leftist SJW types if you read any interviews. It’s just as bad as the news media really.

I don’t see it as some little thing. Video Games have been a bigger money maker than Hollywood and the Music industry combined for over a decade, maybe two decades at this point. It is a bigger influence on the population than most people consider. This makes me sound like I’m against video games, and I most certainly am not, but like I said I’m having trouble finding the right words. Perhaps I’m just confused.

As someone who frequents video game related forums, anything in the modern era is leftist, period. If you want to converse with other gamers that share conservative viewpoints, well, some of the classic gaming related forums are your best bet, because you have grown men/women in their 40’s and up. Even then, the split is about 50/50, so politics as a discussion is discouraged.

My 8 and 10-year old sons play Fortnite. I think they'll grow out of it and then I meet 30-something men who are playing Fortnite and love it just as much as my kids do.
