Austin's "Black Food Week" is back again, giving black-owned restaurants across the Austin area a chance to shine as the spotlight is turned to them.
Sponsored by the Austin Justice Coalition, Black Food Week aims to give the Austin community information about Austin's new and longstanding black-owned restaurants that have become pillars in the Austin community.
This year, the event actually runs for two whole weeks, beginning on July 22 and lasting through Aug. 3.
"We hope that the community not only finds these restaurants as enjoyable dining experiences but also an educational tool that prompts supporting locally owned minority businesses,"

It is an educational tool, huh. Then someone needs to learn that 13 days is nearly 2 weeks.
Are whites allowed to eat it?
No whites aren’t allowed because that would be cultural appropriation.
And so it goes. Only people of Chinese ethnicity are allowed to eat Chinese food, Mexican eat Mexican food, etc.
When I was in the USAF the black airmen complained that there wasn’t enough “soul food” stocked in the commissary and after a multitude of complaints the commissary complied and stocked an entire line with black eyed peas, ham hocks, chitterlings, and other items that rural blacks were supposed to eat. I had to inspect the dates and wholesomeness of the commissary stocked foods and observed that the only ones that ate the “soul food” were we rednecks like us that ate country. The blacks didn’t buy a tenth of the “soul food” stock. After about six months the commissary removed the display as it was not a big seller to the blacks.
I may be criticized for asking, but, are some of these places in bad neighborhoods? And if so, how many will travel into such areas to sample the soul food??
Its a guilty white Leftist thing Im sure.
Is it Racist when I ask for Blackened Chicken in my Fettuccine?
“Excuse me?!? Isn’t that racist? When is white food week?”
Or Chinese? Or Mexican?
I wonder why those other “colored” people don’t need to be helped out with discriminatory, pandering promotions.
I think the same thing has happened in SJW food services at colleges.
Don’t serve it, they demand it.
Serve it, it’s pandering.
I thought the whole idea of “black food” was racist.
I burned lunch earlier today, does that count or is that cultural appropriation?
I would attend if only to get me some frad chicken and some watermelon :)
You mean they don’t have fried chicken and watermelon?
“Just plant a little watermelon on my grave,
and let the juice (slurp sound) trickle through,
Just plant a little watermelon on my grave,
That’s all I ask of you.
Now fried chicken is mighty mighty fine,
but there’s nothing quite as fine as a watermelone vine,
so plant a little watermelon on my grave,
and let the juice (slurp sound) trickle through.”
Raciss or not...that’s some fine eatin’.
As long as there’s plenty of cornbread...
Gee, Wally, what kind of food do you s’pose black food is?
After it became ‘commercialized”, it was touted as “soul food”.
In the 1800s, it was “slave food”.
July is national white history month.
George Washington was the first white president of the United States.
And now you know.
ooooohhh.... I thought they meant food that was black. You know:
Black beans
black-eye peas
Black Forest cake
black & white cookies
black coffee
black raspberries
black Angus steaks
black olives
... well you get the picture...
The other 50 weeks if you don’t count turkey week
One would guess they’re mostly on the east side of I-35. Of course, the likes of Spike Lee, complain that young whites are moving in to the cheap run down houses and gentrifying da hood.
