Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Fox News "went all in for Trump" in the 2016 primaries in an interview with PBS's "Firing Line with Margaret Hoover."
"I think Fox News went all in for Trump. That was the decision they made," Cruz said in an interview about journalist Tim Albertas book "American Carnage," which quotes Cruz as saying Fox News founder Roger Ailes's "dying wish" was to elect Trump as president. Ailes was forced out in 2016 over sexual misconduct allegations and died the next year.
Asked about the quote, Cruz said, "I didnt know Roger well, but I think it clearly is what he wanted to do."
Hoover asked Cruz why he believed the network preferred Trump as a candidate. "I cant tell you that, but I can tell you, starting in about March of 2016, they went all in for Trump, and they made a decision. That was a decision made at the network level, reflected on every show," Cruz said.

He has entered the Ryan, Romney camp.
it was a generalization- much of fox did go for trump- probably thinking trump couldn’t win against hillary- There was a definite shift in their ‘support’ of republican candidates towards the end- I really think Fox wanted hillary as president- again- this is a generalization, not specific- people like Hannity etc wanted trump to win- but I think many in fox wanted Hillary to win and thought trump was too much of a novice to win against her- Tat is why they began attacking trump instead of supporting him, once he got the nomination- They thought he was a joke- and began promoting him- again hoping he would lose i guess- Fox is NOT conservative anymore- and again, that is a generalization- some folks on fox are still conservative- but many jumped the shark a long time ago- they became RINO’s- or maybe they always were- and trump’s win just exposed them as such-
He’s nuts. CNN was fairer to Trump during primaries than Fox News.
Why do people who I believe are on our side of the equation say such stupid things that end up emboldening our Enemies?
Do they really have such bad situational awareness or are they just ignorant useful idiots?
Cruz is talking about the primariesnot the General.
like i said- there was a definite change in support towards the end of primaries- I really believe Fox wanted, by and large, hillary to be president- The sons who owned Fox are liberals I believe- and the station has been steadily taking a left hand turn-
On a different front- bob beckel just came out and claimed He was fired because he ‘didn’t support trump’ lol- Yeah right beckel- shep is still there- neil is still there- jeraldo is still there- but beckel feels he is super special or something- and fox just had to get rid of him because he criticized trump- Sorry beckel- fox kept you there as long s they did because you criticized trump- you were fired for being a dope
he got his citizenship by BEING BORN TO AN AMERICAN CITIZEN!
To think I used root for him to be the candidate! Sheesh
Actually, MSNBC and CNN did just as much to elect Trump as Fox by giving him massive earned media coverage of his many rallies. The reason for this is basic human nature. His rallies were always exciting and dangerous and made really good TV. They were so anxious to show him up and catch him in his next racist or sexist soundbite that they guaranteed he would be a reality TV star relative to the untrusted and boring Hillary Clinton.
Baier even bragged after that debate that they (FoxNews team — Baier, Kelly, Wallace) had colluded to take Trump out early.
Kelly misfired.
They failed.
exactly- they ALL felt he would lose ‘bigly’ against Hillary- and they pushed him to the front in the primaries- for the ratings, as you point out- they felt he wasn’t a serious risk and that they could take him out of the race- like you say0- by painting him as a racist, womanizer, novice etc- I don’t think they wanted him elected as president- I think they felt he would lose- and the stunned weeping reactions on the left on the msm channels show how caught off guard they all were- Even many in fox were shocked-
Anyone born outside the country with a foreign birth certificate has to have paperwork.
I want to see it.
Why is Ted giving the enemy ammunition? Fox News clearly campaigned AGAINST Trump, and they still don’t like him - outside of some of the commentary shows.
That also then applies to Anwar al-Awlaki’s children.
Greg and Perino were absolutely disgusting - treating the accusations against Trump as born out fact.
I think its pretty obvious that mama Cruz never filled out any born abroad paperwork, no?
I think it was not done until high school when he needed a passport for a school trip.
Sweet the way that worked out! Trump is POTUS and Kelly is a has-been with no future.
Ted’s wrong - many of the hosts and reporters, then as now, despise Trump.
Ted lost because he didn’t appeal to enough voters, pure and simple. Ted’s behavior around the time of the convention, when he simply wouldn’t endorse the Party’s nominee, was nothing less than childish, and frankly reinforced my decision to vote for Trump in the primary (and I stood on line for 3 hours with my wife for us to do that). His personality is also why he won such a narrow victory in a solid red state against the Irish fraud, Beta Male.
I say all of this as someone who is one of Cruz’ constituents, and who has voted for him for Senator on every possible occasion.
I was, am, a Cruz supporter. Fox did not favor Trump, they made a calculated decision to try to take him out, and tried.
It failed, and the clear support their audience had for Trump made them back down. But they took a very hard shot. I still won’t watch anyone involved, which would be Kelly, Wallace and Baier.
I didn’t trust Trump for a long time, I figured he was a Democrat until about two weeks before, and figured he had no real fixed principles. But over time I noticed that, no matter how hot the fire, he never backed down (or seldom did), and I began to think he was the real thing. He and Cruz were most in synch on the issues, and I always hoped the two would be running mates, until their very public falling out made that impossible. Still, with all his warts, Trump had essentially the same views as Cruz without his faults (remember, Cruz had pulled some skullduggery on TPP and even the Iran deal, in my view...) So I had no problem shifting my support to Trump as Cruz’s campaign ground to a halt.
I have not been disappointed. Trump is a fighter. Its a good thing, because the Soros DNC is not your Uncle Harry’s DNC. No other Repub (except maybe Cruz) would have fought, and even Cruz could not have survived what has been thrown at Trump.
