I live in the Lake Tapps area of Washington, it's about halfway between Seattle an Mt. Rainier. This is on the south side of the territory composine the White River watershed. I was coming back from a nearby Texaco station and I glanced into a neaighvors yard and I saw...
Three MONSTER buck, with antlers, the velvet on one of them was getting loose and droopy. They were NOT blacktail deer and I am wondering if anyone else fron near here can tell me, they were a uniform brown in color, like a reddish brown, but absolutely uniform.
It surprised me to see them at all - but beyond that, the fact that there were three huge males just sorta palling around... I didn't have my cell phone with me, so no pics.
If the head was darker than the body, that’s an elk.
There are more around than when I was a kid in kent.
The only deer on our side of the pass are Blacktail, otherwise you saw elk
Pretty much totally uniform in color, a redish brown with a slighty lighter tail but no black visible.
That’s what got me, I’ve see, huge blacktail bucks, they are beige-grayish, and these weighed in at a minimum of 550 lbs or so so they WERE NOT blacktail...
Incidentally, I actually did see a whitetail here, she was running along a path near the lake and I startled her so she was flapping her tail up and down, being originally from the East Coast I’ve seen thousands of them.
That’s it!
When I saw that headline, I thought you won the lottery!
I quit deer hunting years ago because it costs as much as elk hunting and even a good mule deer Buck is a lot less meat. Now I hunt hunt hard for elk and skip deer. Being down to just me and the wife around to eat it, I kinda took the hunt hard to hunt not too hard. But a nice bull still gets the blood racing. If deer were that big Id still hunt them.
Lol! Well, stranger things have happened!
In the Okanogan area of Washington there are horses with antlers as wide as canoe paddles.
I like to hunt but, since I can buy bovinea meat at the store I mostly just use it as an excuse to get drunk in the woods and burn down the forest.
If I happen to see Bambis dad though, hes a goner.
I live near the OP and, the deer are a bright golden brown this time of year.
I saw a very healthy 4 pt out my window 2 weeks ago.
Got a 220 pound muley a few years back in southeast.
LOL! Yeah, those western deer are somethin’ else. ;-D
Wait’ll you’re up on the Rockies and see large herds of those very light-colored, tiny deer with only two prongs on each of their heads. You’ll know ‘em by the way they run, jumping along like they’re on pogo sticks.
;-D
Dont forget Wisconsin, they gotta Turdy Point Buck!
You need to go back to camp and drink some more beers and it will all come clear.
Some guy brought a girl’s 4H project goat into a checking station in Missouri. He was so proud... but not for long.
We’re only occasional visitors to the state as we have a kid at Lewis-McCord...but it’s a beautiful state! We always enjoy doing multi-day round-robin trips out and about. Scenery is breathtaking.
