Great list! Let me add The Outlaws and Little Feat and the great JJ Cale.
Thanks. Never heard of Jennifer Warnes or that song before. Interesting. He did add his signature sound, and it was a completely different genre of music. RIP, SRV.
Background vocals (w/Linda Ronstadt) on Warren Zevon's "Excitable Boy"
Her "Famous Blue Raincoat" is a masterpiece - all songs written by the late, great Leonard Cohen. Sometimes it's known as "Jenny Sings Lenny"...but SRV's guitar on the opening track is absolutely amazing.
Yes they are.........search Blackberry Smoke or Whiskey Myers.
Awesome original Southern Rock IMO.
Never heard of them so I went to U-tube and listened to a coupla songs each. I definitely liked what I heard. Thanks
Never, ever heard her name before, but I recognize those hit singles. So, I just listened to “Famous Blue Raincoat.” Very pretty music. Now I see why SRV was open to playing on one of her tracks.
According to their producer (Al Kooper), all the guitar solos were carefully scored and rehearsed so it was always played the same, where live or in the studio.
This was the first “real” song I was taught when I took guitar lessons. All the parts are actually pretty easy to play.
Sorry but I hate this overplayed too long song.

MUCH better than the LZ original!
I seem to recall on Jimmy Buffet’s live album “You Had to Be There” a bunch of people shout out “Free Bird”.
I don’t care for Jimmy Buffet’s regular albums. But his live album was a staple of college parties.
I caught one of the drumsticks at the end of Free Bird at concert in 2005. Still got it...

This is the first time I’ve ever heard “Black Dog” by any group. Where does the title come from? The lyrics have nothing to do with dogs.
Led Zeppelin wrote/recorded “Black Dog”, a very heavy metal production, on their 4th album.
From Wiki:
“Black Dog” is built around a call and response dynamic between the vocalist and band, with its start and stop a cappella verses inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s 1969 song “Oh Well”, according to biographer Dave Lewis.
The title is a reference to a nameless black labrador retriever that wandered around the Headley Grange studios during recording.
