Hard to imagine this get past the preliminary stage! Pretty obvious this was a train wrecking looking for a place to happen and it is pretty hard to place the blame on the “place”
“heir attorney told the media that the shooting highlights the need for the nation to do a better job in dealing with people affected by mental illness.”
Sounds to me like the parents should have done a better job of dealing with their kid.
She comes out holding a gun that looks real and gets shot. This is exactly what the cops are dealing with.
IIRC, California is a comparative negligence state, allowing a jury to access a defendants percentage of responsibility for the damages. Thus, if the damages are high enough, even a small percentage of responsibility, say 5%, for example, could make the suit worthwhile, even though it is 95%
nonsense.
Like you, I’m suspicious.
“Replica handgun”? Really? Who carries replica handguns in their car and then points it at a cop?
How many times have cops been prosecuted for tossing drugs into a person’s car or planting “replica handguns”?
I’d like to see a receipt for the purchase of that replica handgun by the girl.
I will withhold judgment until more information is available.
Could be that the girl was just making a lane change and didn’t see the officer’s vehicle; or that the officer made a lane change and hit her car.
LOL
You forgot the Sarc Tag.
Sunshine is the only effective treatment for depression. Antidepressants merely mask it by suppressing emotion.Sunshine does not produce suicidal tendencies. I have seen three women, including my daughter, straighten out their depression problems with D3(encapsulated sunshine) supplements and one eventually got over her phobia of sunshine. All three have been depression free for five, nine and eleven years.
I have no idea how she got the ignition key and neither do you. Reports only indicate she took the vehicle without permission. But you’re free to infer anything you like.
Before suggesting it could be the cops fault, there were independent witnesses who stated she exited the vehicle and was pointing the gun right at the cop.
It's happened quite a bit. Some of you don't seem to be aware of much of anything.

Antidepressants have very high risk profiles for adolescents with bipolar disorder. There is no evidence at this point that the young lady was taking any anti-anxiety drugs, most of which are not used for bipolar disorder anyway.
Whatever the underlying illness and cause was, nobody can call the end result a successful treatment of a mentally ill adolescent.
I'm thinking NOT.
Think again. Independent witnesses at the scene stated the same thing, in fact stated the decedent held the gun with both hands, pointing it right at the cop. If that shooting stance doesn't justify getting shot by a cop, nothing does.
As a right-handed shooter, when I take a solid two-handed shooting stance, I lead with my left foot VERY far forward.
lol....
Leeme ask ya, if someone was gripping a gun with both hands and pointing the gun right at you, would you not shoot them to save yourself because their shooting stance did not meet your standards or expectations?
17 year-olds can rent cars?
Mentally ill people cant shoot guns?
I saw the video. It's hard to tell from the stills what is actually going on with her. Her trailing foot was actually up in the air. I might have gotten shot because I would have been laughing.
I didn't really see a good picture of the gun/replica gun. I'll wait until we can get there with all this.
I don't know what the situation on the ground is in Fullerton CA, but this was "confrontation policing" from the word go.
I just want to know a little more about this "replica gun", "confrontation cop" and why it took the Fullerton PD a week to get their ducks in a row.
Lots of interesting questions, but I'm leaning in favor of "good shoot" with a dollop of too-aggressive policing.
That helps.
It's there. Btw, I'm mentioned half dozen times there are independent witnesses who stated she was gripping the gun with both hands, pointing right at the cop.
Hard to beat video, independent witnesses at the scene, not to mention lots of physical evidence. This was a clear justified shoot if there ever was one.
