The left, from what I see, expects the various armed police agencies to crush any rightist opposition and the National Guard from units in cities such as LA and Chicago to occupy fly over country ‘hot spots’.
What they don't factor in is how hard it is to put down an insurgency fueled by many individual actors. Then things get very nasty as the experience of the states of Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky during the War Between the States illuminates.

I served in the US Army. The military, by and large, will not take the side of the left in a civil war.

I've been over this with friends who have been or are O-5 and O-6. Yes, if there is a Leftist coup and a patriot army mobilizes against it, the coup plotters will not be able to rely on the military. But that is the least likely way we go to war.
In settings where there is violence and the facts are confused, riflemen will follow their NCOs who will follow their officers. There will be some staged event followed by the internet and broadcast going dark, orders will be given to start rounding up "terrorists", patriots will be isolated in cells of 2-30 men and will be tagged by a preplanned media campaign as "white supremacists".
I'm sure we all can think up many scenarios where the military would be an effective, although unwitting, force on the Leftist side.
And LOOK, 91% of them expect violence and most of those are planning. They aren't going to use Alt Right podcasts to spread their lies, they are going to use Steven Spielberg and CNN.

The dems and their media puppetmasters have been promoting violence for years. We saw it during the 0bama administration billed as the War on Police. We’ve seen it in the media promoted riots. We saw it during the 2015/16 primaries and campaign and since he entered office. All of it promoted and encouraged by the dems and media moguls.

Don’t be misinformed by the neo-communist media companies. Most of the men in U.S. military combat specialties will *not* kill conservatives for the neo-communist Democrats.
And more often than not, civilian neo-communist punks are choosing the more crude, less effective weapons for their intentions of future misdeeds. More of them also tend to neglect training, tend to be drug addicts, criminals, etc.
