Full Title: Leftists and Muslims enraged over Boris Johnsons statement that Muslim world literally centuries behind the West
Mohammed Amin, until recently chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, told the newspaper Mr Johnsons analysis risked actively promoting hatred of Muslims.'
Why? Johnsons statement which, by the way, he made in 2007, but there is no statute of limitations on Leftist/Islamic rage was about Islam, not Muslims. If he had said that Christianity had left South America literally centuries behind the North, he would be lauded as a courageous and clear thinker; when I was in college, which was 100 years ago, this idea was promoted matter-of-factly in classes about Latin America, and never challenged. No one said that the professors were actively promoting hatred of Christians, however dubious their claims.
But there is one belief system that cannot be criticized, on pain of charges of Islamophobia. Note that Amin doesnt say Johnsons analysis is false. In a world where there are Muslim countries in which non-Muslims are put to death for blasphemy, and threats are issued to radio stations for featuring female broadcasters, and women are just now getting the right to drive, and there are honor killings and mutilation of the genitals of little girls, Amin cant truthfully say that Johnson is wrong.

Long but a great read. Explains some of the hurdles faced by any modern movements to reform Islam.
The truth hurts.

Muslim world literally centuries behind the West

No, his maternal grandfather was a Turkish Muslim who came to England and Anglicized.
“Muslim Inbreeding Dragging Britain Back to the 19th Century”
The Middle Ages were NOT the dark ages - the only period that could legitimately be called the dark ages in Western Europe was from 451 to 800 AD — 800 AD being the period of the Carolingian renaissance.
Eastern Europe namely the Roman Empire centered in Constantinople had no such fall until the 13th century.
Islam just ran out of dhimmis
The “dark ages” were a loosely-defined period that some will argue didn’t even exist, so I use the term as little as possible. I tend to equate it with the roughly 1,000 years of little or no progress in Europe after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
