A 6-year-old girl was killed Monday after she was hit by a golf ball on an Orem course.
The child was sitting in a golf cart on the cart path at the Links at Sleepy Ridge, 730 S. Sleepy Ridge Dr., when her father hit the ball that struck her on the back of her neck, according to Orem Police Lt. Trent Colledge.
The 911 call came in at about 10:25 a.m., Colledge said.
She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and then flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she died from her injuries later that night.
Comment on this story The golf cart was neither directly behind nor directly in front of the girl's father, according to Colledge. He said the cart was between 45 and 90 degrees to the father's left.

FWIW, except for biking helmets, most sports helmets seem rather large on small children.
Time to implement tough golf laws and put a big tax on golf balls and register each one after a 30 day wait period.
Only a moron. Assuming the father plays golf right handed, if the cart was between 45 and 90 degrees to his left, the shot he hit was an extreme dead pull. I was taught by my father as an 8 year old in 1955 to always park the cart to the right of a right handed player with the front end about even with the ball or slightly behind but never ahead.
I got it 30 years ago, from a good buddy no less.
Hit me left side, tore my ear a bit.
Ears can bleed beyond expectation.
Had them tape some ‘feminine’ products under my ear and drove myself to the hospital.
Took a few weeks off from the golf league.
“The golf cart was neither directly behind nor directly in front of the girl’s father”
That means it must have been on the side? Must have been a hell of a shank.
“Who parks a golf cart in front of their ball? “
Unless its empty.
My thoughts xactly.
Sweet, Merciful Jesus, I cannot even imagine.
Condolences to this family. That's really a freak accident.
Whatever. Just a suggestion.
How sad.
there are minimum age requirements for almost every course in the united states. 6 years is to young, most courses are around 12-13 years old minimum.
for this reason solely.
we were practicing with our compound bows near a golf course one day, (at a home close to the course) and My Friend was lame was sitting on a 5 gallon pail to shoot- well all of a sudden we hear a thud- and he falls off the pail- a golf ball hit him in the small of the back- ended up with a massive bruise
My brother got hit in the side with a golf ball, knocked him down and out.
Awful. RIP.
To prevent a tragedy that happens maybe once in a hundred years?
Well, Im sure he wont do that again.
Or your 6yo within a 360-degree angle of it if you’re not a good player.
Few sports helmets protect the neck.
