England won their first-ever Cricket World Cup tonight in the most dramatic match the sport has ever seen.
Eoin Morgans side tied the final with New Zealand on 241 runs each and then both astonishingly scored 15 runs in the supposedly tie-breaking super-over.
Fans held their breath as New Zealands batsman Martin Guptill dived in a bid to score a winning 16th run but England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler managed to gather the ball and run him out by just inches.
It meant the home side triumphed because they scored more boundaries sending fans at Lords and thousands more in Trafalgar Square - plus watching on television - into delirium.

Sticky Wicket, what.
WHO has the time to “enjoy” the game, let alone fund it?
Somebody’s gonna have to translate that article...
Translation: England got a big trophy and an even bigger reason to drink and get drunk.
Good show. They made it past some incredible teams.
Retarded way to throw a ball.
Hmmm... Wasn’t cricket developed by the Brits about 500 years ago? They just won their first Cricket World Cup? Is there something wrong with that picture maybe...?
I’ve become a big Cricket fan over the past year, I wish I could have watched it live.
My co-workers from India are not very happy today.
Love this line: “...the most dramatic match the sport has ever seen.”
Translation: Someone woke up and actually spilled their tea.
Their former colonies, like India took to the sport, and as is the case, in poorer countries, people look to sports as a way out. So the best athletes in those countries play Cricket, as opposed to other Sports.
The Cricket World Cup is the championship for the One Day version of the game, and has only existed since 1975. This was only the twelfth World Cup. Of the twelve World Cups, Australia has won five times, India and the West Indies twice each, and Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and now England have won once each.
Think Extra Innings in Game 7 of the World Series, multiply that by a hundred, because ties in Cricket are extremely rare.
It must have been a spell binder that had fans glued to their seats. I hope everyone DVR'd it so they can revisit the excitement every year.

I caught the Cricket Bug when I visited Australia and New Zealand last year.
T20 Cricket is 20 Overs, and pretty much is the same length as a typical baseball game.
Granted, people probably don’t watch an entire 50-Over Match, but they know when the big batters are up. Getting them out before they get to 50 or 100 runs is big. And all it takes is one mistake.
Given the choice of facing a 100-MPH Fastball in baseball or a Cricket “pitch” with the wicked spins, I’ll take my chances with the baseball.
I’m sure you know, but others here may not, there was an Australian Cricketer who was killed by a ball in a game IIRC back in 2011.
Yes, T20 is an even newer form of the game - designed to be even faster paced.
And it was 2014 - Phillip Hughes died when hit during a state level game between South Australia and New South Wales. The ball managed to strike him in an area not protected by his helmet.
Yes, that was it, very sad.
I’ve seen pictures of batters with welts all over their body after a match.
Way cool... uh, I'm pretty sure...
