Prepare to meet The Flintstones all over again. Warner Bros. Animation is working with Elizabeth Banks Brownstone Productions on an adult-skewing primetime animated comedy based on the classic cartoon series, TVLines sister publication Variety reports.
Hanna-Barberas original Flintstones which followed the exploits of married cave-people Fred and Wilma Flintstone, along with their friends, offspring and enormous pets aired on ABC from 1960 to 1966 for a total of 166 episodes. It was even the first animated show to be nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmys in 1961.
More than 10 follow-up series and spinoffs aired in the following years, including The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show (19711972) and The Flintstone Comedy Show (19811982). Weve also seen the iconic characters reimagined in several live-action movies, with John Goodman and Elizabeth Perkins initially stepping into the roles of Fred and Wilma in 1994.
And this isnt the first time the classic cave-dwelling family has attempted to return to television in recent years. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was given permission to develop a Flintstones reboot back in 2011, but the project never came to fruition.

Yabba Dabba Doo Doo
More retreads from Hollywood.
Who will be the tranny?
I really hope they don’t do something as tacky as Jean-Jacques Annaud did in Quest For Fire, and “Baby Puss” is played by a tame mountain lion with fake, plastic sabers glued into his muzzle.
(although to be fair to Annaud, it was 1981, after all, and CGI was still somewhere between Empire Strikes Back and TRON)
I dont know why but thinking of Mr Slate doinking the interns is just cracking me right up.
And I bet Wilma spends extra time with that teenage paper boy....
I learned to enjoy the smooth taste of Winston cigarette smoke from Fred and Barney.
I cant stop laughing. Great post -and thread.
Best expression ever gotten from the flintstones:
Sliding down the dinosaur when its time to leave work. As in Ill call you back tomorrow, Im sliding down the dinosaur
and you just knew Jane Jetson was a complete tiger
They are literally out of ideas.
they are going to sully that too...like everything else they touch.
What’s next....the Jetsons?
They have to homogenize the races and genders.
There are lots of ideas, but when the bean counters who really run things do the math, they figure they're better off spending the same amount of money to make something that has name recognition and at least something of a built-in audience rather than something that nobody knows what it is, requiring you to spend more marketing money.
bam bam as a trans dancing for the guys down at the quarry as they toss him rocks shaped as coins
barnie and betty convert to islam so betty now wears a burka
wilma leaves fred for a woman and fred turns into a white supremacist
Back when the show first was on TV, I don’t think the kids had been born yet—they came later. Wasn’t the Flintstones just a kinder, gentler version of “The Honeymooners” (with dinosaurs)?
No. Rosie the robot maid. Wax and vacuum features. You have no idea.
It’s really more about shrinking profit margins. Fallow properties aren’t earning their keep. In the end Flinstones is just a family sitcom (basically The Honeymooners). There’s a million ideas for family sitcoms. The difference between making it a Flinstones reboot, a Happy Days reboot, or a new property is all a matter of decor.
Oh great, more lame and gratuitous penis jokes.
How “Ed-gy”.
The FlintBones
Season ending cliffhanger.
Oh Jeeze, they’re completely bereft of creativity.
Uh huh, right?
Betty Rubble was played by Rosie O'Donnel in the last live action reboot, if I remember correctly. Does that qualify as 'hot' to you?
