The dad of the family fired 39 "warning shots" at the intruderGlad he's not my neighbor. Clearly, he didn't posses the fortitude to kill another person. That's his prerogative. He's dangerous around firearms and should probably turn his in before someone innocent gets hurt.

EXACTLY. = In addition to my 9mm EDC, I always have a 12-bore pump (loaded with #4 Buck) nearby when I’m at home.
My “personal night of terror”, 30 years later, still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand-up. = 4 thugs, who were high on speed & booze, tried to burn our farmhouse down with me in it.
(Had I not had my kid sister’s 90+ pound, attack-trained, German Shepherd & a 12-gauge double-barrel with me, I don’t think that I would be writing these lines.)
