CALDWELL, Idaho Chicken Dinner Road is ruffling some feathers.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an animal rights organization, is requesting that the city of Caldwell, Idaho, rename the historical Chicken Dinner Road.
In a letter sent to Caldwell Mayor Garret Nancolas, PETA condemned the name of the road, saying, Chickens are intelligent, sensitive animals who feel pain and empathy and form strong bonds with one another, and they shouldnt be considered dinner.
The request, apparently, has run afoul of the mayor.
First of all, its absolutely ridiculous it just is, Nancolas told the Idaho Press. Its a ridiculous request. Its not even in the city of Caldwell, but even if it was, the answer would simply be no.
The road is under the jurisdiction of Canyon Highway District No. 3, according to Nancolas.
Its a waste of my time, Nancolas said.
PETAs letter full of chicken puns asks for Nancolas to listen to PETAs eggciting idea to change the name to something kinder. The letter says if the city hatches a plan for a new name, PETA would be willing to pitch in for the costs.
The letter goes on to outline the violent treatment of chickens raised for the food industry and mentions that the numerous health benefits of a meat-free diet are nothing to squawk about.
PETA ends with one last plea to change the name, saying that they believe you have a great opportunity to demonstrate a sign of the changing times, as more humans are showing compassion and respect for other species.
Why is it called Chicken Dinner Road?Morris and Laura Lamb were friends of Governor C. Ben Ross and his wife, Edna. They had eaten dinner together many times at the Lamb home.
One day, in the 1930s, Mrs. Lamb, who was noted for her chicken, rolls and apple pie meals, was in Boise. She invited the governor to come to dinner. During the same conversation, she complained to Ross about the pitiful condition of the road in front of their place, which was dirt pocked with potholes. Ross was purported to say something like, Laura, if you get that road graded and graveled, Ill see to it its oiled.
Mrs. Lamb approached the Canyon County Commissioners who saw that opportunity as a fine one. They graded and graveled the road. As soon as that was done, she was on the phone to the governor reminding him of his promise. The next day this part seems unlikely, but its Mrs. Lambs story the next day the road was oiled.
The story got around and local hooligans thought it would be droll to put up a big hand-scrawled sign in front of the Lamb house in the dark of night. It read: Lambs Chicken Dinner Avenue. Mrs. Lamb was not amused. Possibly because she knew the rules. It was clearly a road then, as it is today. Chicken Dinner Road.

Call it “Massaman Chicken” Road and really make their heads explode.
Winning.
Laugh but it won’t be long before streets and towns named after the founders will be changed to names like “Planned Parenthood Road” or “Antifa Lane”.
Rename it “Attention Seeking Whores Road” in honor of PETA
Rename it Winner Winner Road.
If it was me being asked I’d change the names of the flanking streets to “Eggs and Bacon” and “BBQ”
Wait for Bernie to name it Free Chicken Dinner Road.
I heard recently, that Jefferson Davis Highway in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, was going to be renamed.
If we go down this road, how many places will have to be renamed, so as not to offend the sensibilities of assorted liberal pressure groups?
There’s a Negro Mountain in western Maryland. I haven’t heard if anyone has complained about it, but time will tell.
And time will tell on anything named for the Founding Fathers, or anyone else who is not deemed politically correct by the standards of 21st century liberals.
Columbus Day has been protested often in the past few years. A few places have deleted Columbus Day in favor of Indigenous People’s Day.
Charlottesville, Virginia, has deleted observance of Jefferson’s birthday.
They are planning to paint over the murals depicting the life and times of George Washington, at George Washington High School in San Francisco. The next step will likely be to delete the name of George Washington from that school.
There is a Turkey Branch Parkway in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, I’m sure PETA is going to demand that be changed. I’m sure some idiot at PETA has a job, to research the names of places and roads which offend their sensibilities.
Dogs are intellegent. Chickens are tasty
Sounds like your typical Dem voter. Brainless, but motile.
How about they change it to “F*** Peta”?
Why stop there? Make it illegal to say phrases like “chicken out”, “chicken pox”, and “chicken sh*t”.
All of these phrases are demeaning to chickens.
Humans have hunted and raised animals to eat since there were humans. It’s 100% normal and natural.
For anyone who doesn’t want to eat animal flesh, I respect your deviation from the norm.
Members of this cult called “PETA” are not known for their rationality. They frame their arguments in the belief that crocodiles, ants and wolves are rational, thinking beings.
While animals of all varieties have shown an amazing adaptation to their niche in the environment, the entire circle of life, PETA has chosen to assert that humanity differs from the “lower” species only because people are basically “cruel” and WANT to see the “lower” species suffer pain and degradation.
This may be one view of a segment of humanity, but certainly not ALL of it. Domesticated animals have been a part of human civilization since very early on, a part of the evolution upward from roaming nomadic tribesman to the technological wizards that have transformed the planet into a virtual Eden in places, all the while with many of these various species at their side, Had we not horses, other humans would have been used as slaves to carry burdens and pull loads. If no cattle and chickens, our diets would be reduced to very anemic sources of protein, as few plant sources in and of themselves provide adequate complete and balanced proteins. If no cats or dogs, human companionship is sometimes a little too intense for many people. The list goes on and on, the interdependence of humanity with animals, and civilization in the absence of this symbiotic relationship would be a much less settled and positive attribute to the world.

This dude has obviously never raised chickens. I have. I am hard pressed to think of any multi celled life form any stupider.
