In one year, a single acre of black soldier fly larvae can produce more protein than 3,000 acres of cattle or 130 acres of soybeans. Such yields, combined with the need to find cheap, reliable protein for a global population projected to jump 30 per cent, to 9.8 billion by 2050, present big opportunity for the black soldier fly. The United Nations, which already warns that animal-rich diets cannot stretch that far long term, is encouraging governments and businesses to turn to insects to fulfill the planet’s protein needs.
People who’ve seen what black soldier fly larvae can do often speak of them in evangelical tones. Jeff Tomberlin, a professor of entomology at Texas A&M University, said the bug industry could “save lives, stabilize economies, create jobs and protect the environment.”
“There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be doing this at some scale throughout the world,” he said.

Starvation happens in socialist societies where people are no longer allowed to create wealth.

The UN has always been about reducing the population of the overpopulated earth... why would anyone listen to anything they say about the well being of humanity.
When that day comes, I’ll convert to being a vegan.

If I eat a bug it better have lived its life under salt water (some exceptions allowed for fresh water bugs in New Oreleans cooking).

Actually that’s probably close to the mark. With agriculture, foraging for food became unnecessary. So when you want your occasional meat in addition to bread, are you going to roll over dead logs looking for grubs or just kill a chicken or pig? The latter taste better and there’s less work.
Soylent Black?
The only insect or bug that is allowed in Leviticus is a species of locust. However the exact species is unknown.
Well, the maggots have to feed on a constant supply of protein themselves, so if we are to supplant all those cows and pig and sheep to feed the maggots, I guess the readiest supply will be acres of dead humans—hopefully passed peacefully at the end of their natural life and not according to some bureaucrats assessment of need.
