Talk about bad luck.
A Florida man was arrested Thursday for impersonating a law enforcement officer after pulling over an actual sheriff’s deputy, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Barry Lee Hastings Jr., 35, of Plant City, was traveling eastbound on I-4 about 8:30 p.m. Thursday in his black Crown Victoria when he pulled behind an off-duty Lee County deputy and flashed his emergency lights. The deputy pulled over to the shoulder and the Crown Victoria rolled up besides him. Hastings reportedly told the deputy to “slow down.”

In Baltimore they would have arrested the real cop for speeding.

Believe it or not, over the years I’ve read many stories about this happening in Florida. One lady wasn’t an impersonator. She pulled a cop over in her regular car because he was speeding.
I had someone behind me on the Interstate with one of the dash mounted flashing/turning red lights. I kept driving until I got to an exit I knew had a police station and pulled right up to the front door, then stopped. He was in an unmarked car with some funky light. He was agitated. I told him no way was I going to stop on a dark Interstate for a car that looks like that

In high school I used to go out drinking with the police chief’s son. My momma didn’t raise no idjit!

Yes, I well remember varied fake cop “Red light rapist” and “Red light bandits” over the years.
Then there are the occasional real cops who offer to let the allegedly speeding cute gal go, if she would just undress a little, of perform a Lewinsky on them!
Caryl Chessman was the most famous “red light bandit.” He wrote “Cell 2455” and died in the gas chamber.

It was a big story at the time due to incessant stays and other legal gymnastics.
At the hour of his execution, most all the boys in my NYC high school class had coughing fits. Teacher got POd, knew something was up, but I don’t think was sure what it was about.

I was stationed in DC from 1984-91. Listened to DC 101.1 FM every day. I met the Greaseman (Doug Tracht) many times and was even on his Wednesday live show a few times!
The Bulky Man, his hydraulics and doo-dads ruled the airwaves!
