PETA Finds Name of Rural Road (Chicken Dinner Road) in Idaho Distasteful, Asks for Change

Chickens are friends for some people, dinner for others. Sometimes both.

But one animal rights group feels that the name of a rural road in the Treasure Valley isn’t kind to poultry.

PETA sent out a news release Wednesday morning alerting Idaho media that it has written a letter to Caldwell Mayor Garret Nancolas to ask for a change to the street name Chicken Dinner Road. However, Caldwell city street maps don’t include Chicken Dinner Road, which is located in rural Canyon County.

So why that name? One can only speculate that some grizzled prospector was recalling a view he fondly remembered. You tell me if it was a good call.

Don’t talk too loud about it. Some SJW will see it and make the petition to City Hall.

Well, obviously it’s not offensive enough. Now if it was “The Only Good Indian is a Dead Indian” Road, now that might do the trick.

A niggerhead is an old logging term for a rock jutting out into the logging road that you had to watch out for. Of course I imagine was derogatory even way back then.

I’m guessing it is on I-90 in Montana that there is a sign for Crazy Woman Creek. Always reminds me of the scene from the movie Jeremiah Johnson where he tries to help out the woman that became crazy after an Indian attack wiped out her family (IIRC).

Haven’t gone through all the Posts, but it would be great to give someone directions to your House, make a Right turn off Winner Winner Blvd. until you hit Chicken Dinner Road.

I live in the first House you hit on Chicken Dumpling Avenue before you hit Chicken Gizzard Circle.

It had me chuckling, too, so of course wifey got curious. But I’ve been a freeper for over 20 years, so when I told her it was more “guy-only” stuff in Free Republic she merely groaned and walked away. Whew!

I believe the term was also used to describe the steam powered winches used to haul logs up to the landing.
Those old time loggers were some rough customers - the cemetery where many of my ancestors are buried has maybe two dozen graves of men killed in the woods during the 30's.
Safety? They never heard that word.

I think you’re right on the winch thing. My grandfather came over from Europe - around 18 iirc. Alone. Started off logging in northern Minnesota, but lost two fingers in an accident. Even today I think logging is one of the more dangerous jobs.
