We knew pretty early in our 14-month relationship with this Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio that we weren't going to be able to make a clean break from it. This was not that kind of relationship. And it is not that kind of car. No, instead we would continue coming back to the Giulia, no matter how it betrayed us. Mostly that's because we were obligated to finish this 40,000-mile test. But we also just couldn't give up on it. Rarely have we hoped for a car in our possession to succeed more than we did for this Alfa. And rarely have we been more consistently disappointed.

Funny you should say that. One of the auto shop teachers at my high school owned several Alfa Romeo’s. He rotated them between driving and in the shop tinkering. What a racket, had free storage , tools, etc.
A co-worker gave me sane advice - get a Miata - feel fahrfegnuggen! Now I have a 5 speed Black 92 with tan leather seats, Borla exhaust, Blaupunkt stereo, and gold BBS rims purring like a kitten with 149k and still original top. I’m 3rd owner and probably only one to drive daily rear-round.
One winter day here in Indianapolis a co-worker saw me arriving with the top down in my coat, hat and gloves. Stopped dead in his tracks and asked ‘Why!’ - gave him a 2 word reply “Why Not!’ - love love love driving it.

Buying an Alfa is like marrying a beautiful woman with advanced aids. The occasional wonderful performance ride is simply not worth the upkeep or the outcome.

I have a 1967 Datsun Roadster myself. Can’t say I’m working on it now or at anytime in the past 38 years LOL.
Thank goodness most of my dream cars are corvette’s, mustang’s, and hellcat’s. All look better than any Alfa or Fiat (or BMW for that matter) and are far more reliable.
My uncle’s got a ‘85 baby powder blue vette and it’s still running. His son will inherit it.
