Blue Bell tracking down woman seen in viral video licking ice cream, returning it to store shelf

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Don’t take Blue Bell’s sweetness for granted. The company is coordinating with law enforcement, retail partners, and social media platforms to track down a woman shown in a now viral video licking the top of a 64 oz ice cream container at a grocery store.

The woman appears to place the now tainted container back on the shelf at the end of the video.

Several reposted copies of the video have gone viral.

***WARNING POST CONTAINS GRAPHIC LANGUAGE***

“This type of incident will not be tolerated,” said Blue Bell when asked about the video by WAFB. “Food safety is a top priority, and we work hard to provide a safe product and maintain the highest level of confidence from our consumers.”

Blue Bell also thanked consumers for alerting team members about the “food tampering incident.” Food tampering can lead to felony charges in some states.

Some consumers took to social media to criticize the lack of safety sealing on some Blue Bell products.

“It’s sickening and if Blue Bell really cares so much about delivering its product to the consumers, then they should consider adding a protective seal to prevent idiots from tampering with it,” said one commenter.

“Please someone please share with Blue Bell Ice Cream.. this is not funny disgusting they need to be caught & charged. Please Blue Bell ice cream seal your ice cream.” pleaded another commenter.

Blue Bell responded to those statements with the following:

“During production, our half gallons are flipped upside down and sent to a hardening room where the ice cream freezes to the lid creating a natural seal. The lids are frozen tightly to the carton. Any attempt at opening the product should be noticeable.”

The company says it will continue to monitor the situation.

The FDA maintains a list of tips to detect product tampering at the grocery store which you can read below:

• Carefully examine all food product packaging - Be aware of the normal appearance of food containers. That way you’ll be more likely to notice if an outer seal or wrapper is missing. Compare a suspect container with others on the shelf.

• Check any anti-tampering devices on packaging - Make sure the plastic seal around the outside of a container is intact or that the safety button on the lid of a jar is down.

• Don’t purchase products if the packaging is open, torn, or damaged. - This includes products on the shelf or in the refrigerator or freezer sections of the grocery store.

• Don’t buy products that are damaged or that look unusual - For example, never purchase canned goods that are leaking or that bulge at the ends. Likewise for products that appear to have been thawed and then refrozen. • Check the “sell-by” dates printed on some products, and only buy items within that time frame.

• If you suspect product tampering at the grocery store, report it to the store manager.

• Once you get a commercial food product home, report a suspected tampering incident to your local police department.

• If the food contains meat or poultry, call the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-800-535-4555.

• If the food does not contain meat or poultry (such as seafood, produce, or eggs), notify the Food and drug Administration. For emergency questions, call the FDA’s 24-hour emergency number at (301) 443-1240. For non-emergency questions, call the FDA Food Information Line at 1-888-SAFEFOOD

This might be off topic but...Blue Bell is a terrible product. It is filled with high fructose corn syrup and they market themselves as a local Texas product. So many brands have decided to produce healthy ice cream with real sugar instead of the fake stuff they use.

Any tamper-resistant container can be defeated by someone that is intent on doing it.

Find out what kind of STD’s and other communicable diseases she has, before sentencing her.

Years ago I used to be a vendor for hotel gift & sundry shops.

One time down on the east coast of Florida (Days Inn I think it was at the time) when I was servicing my mdse, a person came out of the lobby bathroom with a bottle of mouthwash they had used and put it back on the shelf.

This country needs to face the fact that we have a LOT of two legged feral animals running loose. Society would be better off if these (barely) humans were removed from the gene pool.

The supermarket has no responsibility in this??

How could the store be considered capable of preventing this? Hove someone stationed at the end of each aisle? Cameras can catch people, but they can't prevent.

Lactose intolerant? You can make ice cream from coconut milk (the full fat kind) or avocados (they’re practically tasteless, and mostly fat). And you don’t need an ice cream maker for most recipes. Do an internet search. :)

Look for “So Delicious” brand coconut milk ice cream. Their mint chocolate chip is my favorite. Also love chocolate, chocolate chip cookie dough and butter ( not real butter) pecan.

I find this brand of coconut milk ice cream at many retailers.

I use So Delicious coconut milk on my rice cereals.

They make “ ice cream “ bars too!

I would not buy ice cream that doesn’t have a physical seal that indicates it has been opened.

THe idea that freezing the ice cream to the lid creates a seal that can be detected is ridiculous. If you don’t inspect carefully, by the time you get home, the thing is going to be melted enough that the lid will just come off.

and after the woman licked it and replaced the lid and put it in the freezer, her saliva would re-freeze the lid anyway, so it would appear to be still frozen.

So yes, get this woman, but stop ignoring the problem of not having your lids actually attached.

Some kind of wrap or sealer that makes tampering very obvious.

Or get a law passed that prohibits a$$holes and Democrats from having offspring.

Or at least start with severe licensing requirements

Food tampering is a major crime.
Go after the female as an adult.
Go after her parents
Go after the individual publishing the video

These are ADULT crimes

Won’t this cause a severe drop in Blue Bell purchases? They will of necessity seal their tubs better.

You can. Even ask local ice creameries - most carry nondairy versions. I just took my daughter to a little mom and pop shop that had an amazing “chocolate sheet cake” flavor that she really loved, nondairy! She can’t digest regular milks or ice creams either.

And the coconuts dream brand is really good too, my other kids who digest milk fine love them too.
