Tyler Skaggs, Los Angeles Angels pitcher, has passed away

Tyler Skaggs, Los Angeles Angels pitcher, passed away this morning, the team announced. Skaggs was in Texas, where the Angels were scheduled to begin their four game series against the Texas Rangers today. Tonight’s game between the Rangers and Angels has been canceled.

This is tragic news for the Angels and the MLB community. Skaggs, 27, was a Southern California native who was born in Woodland Hills and graduated from Santa Monica High School. He was originally drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, but returned home to the Angels in a trade in the 2013-14 offseason. He has spent parts of the last four seasons in the Angels rotation, including making 15 starts this year for the Angels.

Our thoughts go out to the Angels baseball family.

My 29 year old daughter died in her sleep of cardiac arrhythmia. We had dinner with her the night before, and she was fine. She also never had any symptoms or heart problems. In fact, she had a baby 18 months before with no complications or health problems. I’ll never get over her death. She was my only child.

coke alone will kill. The heart gets ischemic (reduced blood flow) and this leads to a fatal arrhythmia

Probably the toughest thing a parent has to endure. I was thrust into the role of decision maker when my oldest brother died suddenly and my parents nearly fell apart. I made most of the arrangements with little input from them other than a nod to my suggestions.

People thought I was cold because I kept calm, but when the ordeal was finally over, I nearly fell apart. He was my big brother too, but someone had to step up and keep things together for those days. It was only instinct or God's help (probably both) that I was able to do so.
