Spring weather has delayed the Texas watermelon harvest, casting doubt on the supply ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. Fields across the state are behind schedule due to weather, meaning peak sales for the summer holiday are in jeopardy statewide, growers say. Gary Collins first started growing watermelons 66 years ago. This season, he said, has been “pretty rough.” “Ground was cold, ground was real cold,” Collins said.

My wife buys a watermelon every summer. It sits in the refrigerator, usually with one slice missing, until someone throws it out (usually me). Not one of mine mandatory food groups.

She had a watermelon eating black boy figurine on her cabinet. That has not been debunked.

Fields across the state are behind schedule due to weather,

We've had constant reports in Ohio about how far behind planting is because of the cold and then the rain. If fall comes early this will be an ugly year for the harvest.

I just got my watermelons in the ground last week. It’ll be a toss-up whether they ripen before frost.

Plenty of Melons of all varieties in our little Berg. But signs are up some fruit will be spotty due to spring rains.

We have a 2 large Strawberry and Tomato farms in the area.

My own toms are NOT doing well, worst I’ve seen them. Bugs are eating them before they even start to turn color.

Blackberries are doing only OK. Not as good as usual. We had to much rain. I should be picking daily, and am only getting half what I’d normally get every other day.

Besides to much rain, we are not quite as HOT as we normally get. Typical Memphis area weather. Wait 5 minutes it will change.
