Princeton grad found guilty of murdering his father after his allowance was cut

Thomas Gilbert Sr., a founding managing partner of the hedge fund Wainscott Capital, was found dead in his apartment in January 2015 with a gunshot wound to the head.

Gilbert's attorneys did not dispute that he killed his father but said he was not guilty by reason of insanity. Jurors dismissed the insanity defense; they also found him guilty on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Gilbert, 34, played football at Princeton and graduated with a degree in economics. At the time of the shooting, he was 30 and unemployed, receiving up to $1,000 a week from his parents.

Hours before Thomas Sr. was killed, he cut his son's weekly allowance to $300, prosecutors said.

Lyle Menendez was a Princeton guy, too. Same stunt.

I’m not, either. But it’s really not the bats. They overnight under a bridge over the water of Lake Austin. It’s the pigeons. Most bridges have a colony. That’ll be past-tense in a few months! :-P

When we were kids, we didn’t get an allowance.

And we LIKED it.

Every day - every day - every day. This is really getting old. Time to wipe everyone out, clean the slate and start over. Do we really need to know all these stories? Can’t we get back to Brinkley and Huntley giving us some NEWS and forget the wretched state of so many of the citizens? It seems there just isn’t anything to write or talk about unless it’s really dastardly! We can stay off the internet, away from the TV, I guess. Not a bad idea!

I had an allowance once. My mom told me she put it in the bank every week. One day, about the time of my 12th birthday, I asked for it. I figured I’d have a few hundred saved up.

“You spent it.”

“I...spent it???”

“Yes. At McDonald’s”

“McDonald’s?!?”

“Yes. Every other weekend. I bought my meal. You, your sister, and your brother bought yours. Remember?”

Well, of course not! But I certainly remember hectoring our mom to go to McDonald’s at some point every other weekend.

Then I got a small paper route.

It’s weird. My son got into money troubles carrying large balances on several credit cards, with an upside down mortgage. His wife spent whatever she wanted. I explained about living below your means and getting out of making interest payments, then gave him some money for a boost. The point of all this?

He has a degree in accounting and is a corporate tax accountant for a nationally known company. You’d think college would have prepared him to apply the lessons to himself.

Sometimes it’s easier to just keep paying your grown up kids.

Especially if you are wealthy.

After a certain age, almost no one changes their behavior for the better.

“Tough Love” is seriously overrated.

If your adult child is overtly dangerous, just pay him to stay away.

As long as your other kids are getting the same check he gets each month, no one is going to complain.

Of course, if you are not wealthy, the problem gets a lot more complicated.

He’ll end up being Big Bubba’s baby doll in prison. Funny how these things turn out.

I’d bet with what I would guess his attitude to be like he’s definitely going to be someone’s little bitch.

Betty Boop is so cute when she wags her finger at us! I honestly find it hard to be mad at AOC. She’s still young enough to learn the errors of her ways—though it may cost her her seat in Congress.

But all good things must come to an end. My guess is that, even now, her own party is grooming her successor to win the next primary without her knowledge.

Mommy knows.

Snip from the article

Shelley Gilbert’s 911 call was played in Manhattan Supreme Court.
When an emergency dispatcher asked who shot her husband, she replied,
“My son, who is nuts, but I didn’t know he was this nuts.”
