MURRAY, UtahA Utah woman wants to see change after an antiquated ordinance led her to receive misdemeanor charges for allowing her cat to lay on their front lawn.
When Kate Anderson was first approached by animal control, she thought something terrible had happened to their cat. Then, the officer gave her a citation, carrying the weight of two misdemeanor charges, for letting her cat law on their own lawn.
Milo, come here! Anderson said as she made kissy noises to her cat while it laid on their front lawn.
In the Anderson household, Milo is treated like family.
Hes got a cat door, so he just comes and goes and is a cat, Anderson said.
However, they never expected their furry feline would be the reason they were slapped with misdemeanor charges.
There he is, back at the scene of the crime, Anderson laughed as her cat came near her and laid on the lawn.
On Monday, Kate said Milo had let himself outside and was laying on their front lawn someone then took a picture of Milo and reported it.
I just got a ticket for my cat being outside, in my yard, Anderson said in disbelief.
An animal control employee received the report and made a house call to Kates Murray home. They then wrote her a citation.
This is a cat who is neutered and micro-chipped and vaccinated, and is not a menace to society, Anderson said.
Kate lifted up the ordinance and started to explain what it said, Thats telling me I have to call for my court date for my misdemeanors of having my cat outside.
Two charges were listed on the citation, both Class B misdemeanors. The first for having an animal at large, the second for not having an animal license attached.

For all the press it gets about being conservative, Utah is chock full of nanny-staters. They love big government. A significant number of them don’t believe people should be left alone to make their own decisions, but that they should be directed by those who know what’s best for them.

what else?
You can’t control a law abiding society so enough laws have to be created to make anyone a criminal.
You Will Be Made To Care, Comrade
Thankfully our cat keeps the chipmunk and squirrel populations in check, without leaving our 32 acres.
> And we are supposed to allow coyotes to roam our city streets because the world is their natural habitat!
Look on the bright side. They eat cats.
You should see the liquor laws in Utah.
Its the only state in the union where its impossible to get drunk.
We have 5 or 6 neighborhood cats. They roam where they want, relieve themselves where they want and generally irritate those to whom they dont belong. They have even used up a few of their lives because they ventured inside our fence and didnt excuse themselves before the dogs were let out.
A cat that lays in the yard is not a problem for me. A cat that calls the entire block his playground is. No one would tolerate this from my dogs.
We have way too many silly laws. If an animal is creating a problem, by all means call animal control & deal with the owner. But a cat in its own yard behaving properly? Ridiculous!

This tyrannical government action exemplifies why people should be exceedingly wary of government at every level, and diligently strive to reduce its authority to regulate our lives.
eggs? (DNA manipulation)
I live in Utah. I’m very familiar. They just dropped the DUI level to 0.05%.
The Government has killed a lot of people for less than $25.00.

Well and truly said, and every word of it!
They kill birds and squirrels (and tear up ornamentals in the process), and then crap in the mulch.

Anything that kills squirrels is valuable anti-pest protection.
There’s no real shortage of birds and some birds (grackles)are in the same pest category as squirrels.
As for your mulch, I feel for you, but 2 out of 3 isn’t bad.
Personally, I have 80 acres and the nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile. My cat is on her family property. She also keeps other neighbor’s cats away.

Yes, I’ve read a number of articles that confirm your observation. I think most of the nanny-staters are invaders who have fled the slums their own political stupidity created in States on the east and west coasts.

Anyone and everyone, because it’s been pretty well established that, except for the bedridden, everyone is guilty of committing some illegal act everyday. As Stalin’s chief of secret police, Levrentiy Beria, famously said, “Show me the man and I’ll show you his crime.”
kitten-eggs.
By criminalizing actions that are not a crime, an oppressive government keeps the citizens under control, and teaches them to become submissive sheep.
Not this one.
How embarassing for the community.
What will Mitt do or say about this?
But putting a dog on a car roof is perfectly ok.
What about a license for a pet fish?
