Uber and lyft are safer than taxis
Just pay atttention
Some folks didnt like girls late at night ..
Unwise
I have used Uber a lot..
Never once an unpleasant experience
As I said, I have never taken Uber, so I didn’t know what features its app offered. I just know that the question he asked was simply a software feature and could be added if the app already did not have it.
There are lot of holes in the official explanation for this. There have been instances of Uber drivers assaulting passengers.
The girl in Columbia was killed a week or so before Uber went public. No word from the “real’ Uber driver. Initial reports claimed the student thought it was her Uber ride. No word on how they knew what she was thinking.
The Uber app shows in great detail where exactly the ride is. If she thought it was hers, hers must have been close by. There s no other likely car in the video.
I know you like scolding Uber
Have you ever used it
True.
Uber and lyft have for a long time done exactly what you suggested
Its not their fault customers dont pay attention
I suppose one could develop a dumbass or drunk proof software where you have to verify before the Uber drivers car door will unlock
Freepers love and I mean love with intensity
Criticizing and blaming things they are ignorant of
Its a facet of this joint as much as not reading the article is
And I dont mean you per se..you brought up constructive points that you simply didnt have awareness of
But the scolds are always loaded here
And I confess it entertains me some to poke
It is safer than a cab and as a driver told me, much safer for the driver than driving a cab because Uber drivers know their passenger. Tip: When the car arrives, before you get in the car, ask the driver his name. Only you and Uber know who you are expecting. Wrong name or no reply, tell him to move on.
Huh, last week I drove to a local train station
to buy a RR ticket (since the fare app changed
it became unreliable); I was turning near the entrance
when a young lady hopped into the back of my
SUV thinking I was Uber - I had the doors unlocked
as I just dropped someone off nearby.
Worse, my right passenger door had the child
lock on (because my adult son is autistic and though not
a runner, still tries to open the door in motion)
and she couldnt let herself out, likely the precise situation
the tragic college student found herself in.
Of course I stopped and let her out immediately, didnt
have an incident or to lecture her beyond watch
whose car youre getting to. Im sure this has happened
100s of times. Me after almost getting killed in a
Uber driving way too fast in a Tstorm in Memphis in a
hurry to drop us at the airport I never use em. Anyone
it seems can be Uber or Lyft, some are both and the
vehicles can be any condition any kind.
That’s the most likely cause.
You know you’re getting in the car of a stranger, it’s their vehicle. Not checking the license plate and/or not having them verify their name is just careless.
When I lived in Manhattan in the 90s I used a company supplied car service and usually had drivers that I knew.
When a new driver showed up, I always checked ID, before I got into the car.
It only makes sense to know the person that is driving you around {in taxi's you should always check the pix}.
I still can’t even think about that other one. too much horror in her last minutes to conceive.
I always tell me wife to ask the driver “who are you here to pick up?” from a safe distance.
For all of you who have never used Uber, he is a sample screenshot.
It does require that the rider pay a bit of attention. Before I get into an Uber ride I ALWAYS ask the driver my name. They have that in front of them. If they don't know my name I don't get in the car.
I’ve been on Hilton Head (it’s not Hilton Head Island...just Hilton Head) a LOT. Where did he find a dirt road there.
Or did they end up back in Bluffton? Not a whole lot of dirt roads left there any more.
Could have been a drive way, but....
Live in HH. There are plenty of dirt roads.
“(its not Hilton Head Island...just Hilton Head) “
-
Wrong,it’s both-—and it IS an island.
.
Yes, but no one calls it Hilton Head Island....just Hilton Head.
Cool. I haven’t come across one in 40 years, but, I take your word for it. I am from Savannah and we use to go over there a lot and drive around. We managed to end up at the Disney resort every time, and, popped in for Ice Cream.
I had a friend who’s parents had a place up Folly Field Rd back in the 60s.. It was dirt back then. We were out walking around one day and dug up an artillery shell in the road. Don’t know if it was a left over from the ACW or Spanish American. He doesn’t know what happened to it.
One night, his dad took us to a haunted house on the island. It really was a house in a dump. Now that area is Wexford.
Hoping to be on Hilton Head this winter for a bit, but, won’t have a car, so, won’t be able to explore too much.
“Yes, but no one calls it Hilton Head Island....just Hilton Head.”

Sure they do-——may be a regional thing.
