A coyote grabs a toddler in a backyard in Aurora. - Supplied
The Ministry of Natural Resources has confirmed it was a coyote that bit an Aurora toddler in a residential area June 16.
Jane Smith, who asked her real name not be used to protect the identity of her family, and her two children were on their way home from dinner on the evening of June 16 when her son innocently ran in-between their house and the neighbours to check on a new tree sapling the family planted earlier in the day.
His three-year-old sister was along shortly, both of them within their parents sight from the front of the house.
Security footage sent to Yorkregion.com by Smith shows a coyote sniffing around the Leslie Street and St. Johns Sideroad area property only moments before, and standing still at the fence line as the children approached the backyard.

OMG, good thing the parents were right there. I imagine they will put out a trap for that aberrant coyote and then put it down.
Maggots with fur.
They dont need a trap. They just need a roadrunner. :-P
I’ve seen several when I used to go on night rides (bicycle), near big fields. They never bothered me but they still had that human-avoidance instinct in them. They almost gallop when running.
Ran across “A Coyote Named ‘Scooter’” on YouTube. Fascinating to watch up close:

If the coyote isn’t caught or killed so it can be tested, that little girl will have to get rabies shots.
The real problem is a serious lack of bullets.
Traps are going to get a lot of family pets.
So do coyotes.
Lots of cats and dogs are eaten by coyotes.
Aurora Colorado? Aurora Illinois?
I know you know where this is but the rest of us do not. Please at least include a keyword that indicates location. I live in Colorado and Aurora is a suburb of Denver. We have a serious coyote problem. Thanks.
There is at least one Aurora in every state. This one appears to be in Ontario, Canada.
Ontario
Coyote wasn’t very hungry
My money says it’s a coydog - - half coyote and half domestic dog. The domestic in them dulls their fear of humans and they get out during daylight rather than at night. That varmint had no fear of being around people or houses. It needs to be shot before it hurts or kills a child.
We have them here and I have absolutely no love for them at all.
The family is fortunate to live in Canada instead of Australia. Were it Australia the whole country would be mocking the family for decades.
Something isn’t right with it’s tail, too. Its too skinny and short. Its still cool in Canada, that animal should have more fur. Usually they have patches of thick fluff falling off and this animal was all sleeked down. Daylight, abnormal fur..sick most likely. Looking for an easy meal, not strong enough to hunt. Thinking out loud.
Rabies shots aren’t the nightmare they used to be, do teeatment right away is a good thing.
She ought to anyways as you don't know if you got the right one even if you trap one.
Aurora where ever, coyote, or part dog, sick or not. Live trap it and put it down. Coyotes are very wise when adapting to life around people. They can and do get small pets and can be dangerous to children. If its out away from houses and concentrated neighborhoods, a shotgun and 4 buckshot is a good cure. They are not desirable around folks with pets or kids. Ive lived in Missouri and Idaho, I dont pass a shot at one unless I cant shoot safely. Period.
We know someone who had two german shepherd dogs in a fenced in backyard. Coyotes jumped the fence and killed both the german shepherds.
