Woman bitten in face after trying to kiss growling 200-pound dog in Brooksville

A woman was bitten on the face by a dog in Brooksville after trying to kiss it, deputies say.

It happened early Wednesday morning. Hernando County Sheriff's deputies and Fire Rescue were called to Canal Drive in Brooksville about a dog bite.

Deputies say four adults share the residence. Two of the people had recently rescued a 200 pound Bull Mastiff from a man known only as Mike in Floral City.

Two of the residents got home late after a night at the bar, and the dog became aggressive and started growling at all four residents.

One said they had only had the dog for a week or so, and it had never shown aggression before.

For unknown reasons, one woman approached the dog and leaned down to kiss it on the face. The dog then bit her on the face, on the left cheek and lip area.

Another person was also bitten by the dog on the hand when he tried to intervene.

THe residents were eventually able to corral the dog it to a bedroom.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and transferred transferred to a trauma center where her injuries could be addressed by a plastic surgeon.

The dog was taken to Hernando County Animal Services. They tell us with any animal bite, the standard procedure is a 10-day rabies quarantine for the animal. We won’t know what happens next for this animal until after this time period has passed.

Some dogs are nice, some are not. Wishing something were true doesn’t make it true.

My wife and kids are way too trusting of dogs IMHO. They are still just dogs. Although like I said, the two that we've had we've never had any problems. I sure kept a close eye on our 4-year old girls when they would put their dresses on our Australian Shepherd. He would stand there and do it though.

(I'm not sure that our current dog would stand for it though - it would probably escape to the back room.)

Carl Hiaasen

Funny as all get out. I remember the references to the “musical version to ‘Silence of the Lambs.” “Lambs” for short.

Laughed my head off.

That’s what I think. Watching animal shows where the animals are people in fur is where these low-info people get their ideas. People who grow up around real animals don’t behave like this.

Hopefully she learned something. Most people like this don’t respect animals enough to learn about them. They want to live in a fantasy world.

This dog might be vicious or unmanageable, but the circumstances as reported sound like self defense.

NO they should put the stupid woman to “sleep” !!!

She was the cause of the problem NOT THE DOG. She went to the Dog and stuck her face in the Dogs space.

Not all dogs, but a lot of dogs do not like to have you stick your face right into theirs. They instinctively view it as an aggressive act.

So if you do something that the dog will interpret as aggression, why should you be surprised when the dog bites you?

People want to have dogs around they need to learn about the nature of the animal. Few people do that.

The dog was already growling, and is a “rescue”. It was probably abused, and is aggressive. Everywhere in a home is the person’s space, not the dog’s. Kill it.

P.S. All caps doesn’t prove anything.

A similar thing happened here in Denver, over a decade ago, live and on air when a studio news anchor put her head down too closely to a dog - that was being promoted for adoption. The animal came up to her, like JAWS, and munched her face. They cut away quickly. Weeks later, she came back on air with stitches to her face and mouth and talking funny - but to show everyone that she was “just fine”. It was sadly comical in a way, poor lady!

Check out My FRHomepage. The Grandson plays with Our Girls all the time. Heck yesterday Savannah (The White Boxer) was standing in the Den and He walked up behind Her and proceeded to start giving Her a Rectal Exam !!!
She just turned Her head and looked at Him.

My big Dog is a Rescue. It took some time to get Her to relax but She plays with the Grandson.

The CAPS were to emphasize, AND THEY WORKED.

I was bitten on the face by a Dog I had known for over 10 years. I was on the floor with My head in Girlfriend’s lap and it walked up and bit My nose and cheeks. I pried the jaws open and then clamped the Dog’s snout SHUT and bit it on the nose while staring eye to eye until it screamed/squealed. I let it go and from then on that DOG knew who was Alpha Dog.

We obviously don’t agree on this and I’m not changing My opinion so have a nice day.

They should put the dog to sleep.

What’s the dog got to do with anything? The dog felt threatened and responded appropriately. If you’re stupid and drunk enough to try and kiss a 200 lb dog you don’t even know on his face, you deserve the reward for your ignorance.
