Woman bitten in face after trying to kiss growling 200-pound dog in Brooksville

A woman was bitten on the face by a dog in Brooksville after trying to kiss it, deputies say.

It happened early Wednesday morning. Hernando County Sheriff's deputies and Fire Rescue were called to Canal Drive in Brooksville about a dog bite.

Deputies say four adults share the residence. Two of the people had recently rescued a 200 pound Bull Mastiff from a man known only as Mike in Floral City.

Two of the residents got home late after a night at the bar, and the dog became aggressive and started growling at all four residents.

One said they had only had the dog for a week or so, and it had never shown aggression before.

For unknown reasons, one woman approached the dog and leaned down to kiss it on the face. The dog then bit her on the face, on the left cheek and lip area.

Another person was also bitten by the dog on the hand when he tried to intervene.

THe residents were eventually able to corral the dog it to a bedroom.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and transferred transferred to a trauma center where her injuries could be addressed by a plastic surgeon.

The dog was taken to Hernando County Animal Services. They tell us with any animal bite, the standard procedure is a 10-day rabies quarantine for the animal. We won’t know what happens next for this animal until after this time period has passed.

Unless this woman happens to be mentally retarded, she did a really, really stupid thing.

Being drunk is close to being retarded. They should put the dog to sleep.

And when the dog wakes up, the people should be dead.

I know a crazy woman like this. Thinks she can be friends with any animal. Tried to make friends with and get on a bull. He showed her his real personality and she learned her lesson, luckily without getting stomped or gored to death.

Dogs don’t like drunks.

Carl Hiaasen made a career out of writing novels about FL’s quirky inhabitants. Several have even been made into movies.

It’s Brooksville, FL. They won’t live much longer. Either meth or “hold muh beer” will eliminate them...

Funny you said that, I had this dog, best dog I ever had and at 62 I’ve had a lot. While trying to house train her she was extremely smart. She’d look around find out where we were and crap in her hiding spot again and again, until the one day I finally caught her. She, too, was the best watch dog I ever had. With strangers she was a lion but somehow with my grand daughter she was so the opposite. I miss her. I hate to say it because I’m gonna get razed around here, especially with my GD around but her name became “shitty”. She was such a great great dog.

"..They should put the dog to sleep.."

Euphemisms suck and reek of a lie. They should kill it. As with any vicious dog (or human, for that matter).

Morons like this lady are candidates for a Darwin, or at least an analogical meme about islam. Unfortunately our society offers abundant safeties which allow them to perpetuate.
So we get what we have now. Idiocracy Lite. d;^)

One of our dog’s nicknames is Sir Poopsalot, because, well... he does just that. Fortunately, he does it outside. :D

My mom when she was a little girl was friends with the neighbor’s dog - never any issues. One day she was petting it, and the dog bit my mom in the face.

They took her across the lake where there was a doctor. He put her on the kitchen table and sewed her up the best he could to stop the bleeding. He actually did a really good job, but mom could still point out the scars at 95 years old.

Seems the German Shepard had been shot with a .22 unbeknowst to the owner - with the round still in the dog. They figured it out after the owner shot his dog to put it down.

Mom was always very leery of dogs after that. Me too to some degree after hearing the story over and over as a child. Although she loved our two big dogs, and they loved her!

“They should put the dog to sleep.”

If the animal had rabies, they won’t have to. It will be dead in 10 days from that. That’s why the incubation period is 10 days.

Fact is, my GD was attacked by a german shepard. Had I known where it was and who the owners were, I think I’d have shot both. She still has a 4 inch scare on her face and another on her collar bone. Only by the grace of God did she turn her head otherwise it would have had her by the neck. When I saw her in the ER prior to the stitching it was horrific.
