Organizers of an annual conference that brings together people who believe that the Earth is flat are planning a cruise to the purported edge of the planet. They're looking for the ice wall that holds back the oceans.
The journey will take place in 2020, the Flat Earth International Conference (FEIC) recently announced on its website. The goal? To test so-called flat-Earthers' assertion that Earth is a flattened disk surrounded at its edge by a towering wall of ice.
Believers in a flat Earth argue that images showing a curved horizon are fake and that photos of a round Earth from space are part of a vast conspiracy perpetrated by NASA and other space agencies to hide Earth's flatness. These and other flat-Earth assertions appear on the website of the Flat Earth Society (FES), allegedly the world's oldest official flat Earth organization, dating to the early 1800s.
Whether or not the FEIC cruise will rely on GPS or deploy an entirely new flat-Earth-based navigation system for finding the end of the world, remains to be seen.

“I don’t believe the earth is flat but they do have several points that need better explanations.”
People have already answered all of their questions many times over. It doesn’t matter.
Flat earth is science? I must have missed that.
Scientists don’t publish LiveScience.
And laughs don’t revolve around pseudoscience.
Here’s a joke.
What’s the first reducing agent in the ETC?
DTT?
“Flat earth is science? I must have missed that.”
Exactly.
But it serves for Alinsky type smears, tropes and memes.
agree
Well, it’s turtles all the way down.
If the Bible does not say the Earth is flat, than it is not flat.
They look like they are auditioning for the Rockettes.
(bugger.)
Ugh. I tried watching that show, it seemed like they hit us with the umpteenth gay (rug muncher) couple right off the bat. Can’t they do any effing show without shoving our faces in that ?
We’ve known that the Earth wasn’t flat for thousands of years. And if basic math/science wasn’t enough for the fools, it’s been about 500 years since the first circumnavigation. These people are beyond morons.
No they haven't, saying the people are crazy may marginalize there questions but it doesn't answer them.
Show me any place in the universe that an object produces a shadow smaller than itself, except of course the moon during a color eclipse. Maybe you can use the penumbra theory like the Supremes did in Roe.
RELEASE THE KRACKENS: When I first started seeing these FE youtubes showing up the last six months or so, I wasn’t even curious. Is it just those wacky Christians who believe this? I have read Genesis many times, and the detailed description of the Creation of the Earth was incomprehensible when compared to NASA’s Big Blue Marble hurling through the Void. How to reconcile God’s creation as a flat plane covered by an impenetrable dome with water above and water below and sun and moon within the dome and the stars imbedded in the firmament. Finally my curiosity got me, and I watched some FE youtubes. Many compelling points were made.
However, NASA could shut it all down if they had the proof everyone thinks they do. How about some actual photos of the spherical earth if we actually did go to the moon 240,000 miles away or Mars at 35 million miles. I would settle for the Hubble turning its camera around up there 350 miles away (ISS is a total joke)—Nothing, not one single photo of earth in NASA’s gallery that is not CGI/Artist creation.
AS to an objective observation of the earth’s shape... Ever heard of Auguste Piccard, Swiss physicist who went up 10 miles into the stratosphere in a balloon in 1931. His feat was written up in Popular Science. Here is a quote from what he and his partner observed through their non-fisheye glass windows:
“The story of their adventure surpasses fiction. During the ascent, the aluminum ball began to leak. They plugged it desperately with vaseline and cotton waste, stopping the leak. In the first half hour, the balloon shot upward nine miles. Through portholes, the observers saw the earth through copper-colored, then bluish, haze. It seemed a flat disk with upturned edge. At the ten mile level the sky appeared a deep, dark blue. With observations complete, the observers tried to descend, but couldn’t. While their oxygen tanks emptied, they floated aimlessly over Germany, Austria, and Italy. Cool evening air contracted the balloon’s gas and brought them down on a glacier near Ober-Gurgl, Austria, with one hour’s supply of oxygen to spare”

What happens when the climate heats up and the wall of ice melts?!?
You've bought into a phony argument. Photo's from space are ALWAYS computer generated. They have to be. In fact any photo you take with a digital camera of a phone is computer generated. They have to be. From "How Stuff Works":
The digital camera is one of the most remarkable instances of this shift because it is so truly different from its predecessor. Conventional cameras depend entirely on chemical and mechanical processes -- you don't even need electricity to operate them. On the other hand, all digital cameras have a built-in computer, and all of them record images electronically.
So ALL digital cameras are computer generated images. The only alternative is traditional photography which on a satellite is impractical if not impossible. Take a picture on film and bring them all down to earth?
Maybe you're talking about composite photos taken by satellites near earth? Pictures taken by satellites NEAR earth will NEVER show all of earth. If the earth were the size of an orange then a typical satellite is about a 1/4 inch away. There's no way to get the whole earth in a shot. So those types of satellites take as much as they can as they orbit and then the images are stitched together to make a whole.
However there are several satellites that are far from earth. A NASA satellite devoted studying the climate is a million mile orbit. That's far enough away to get whole earth pics (see this link for the story).
Here's an image:
So essentially ALL photos from space ARE always going to be digitally altered or enhanced in some way because they DATA for the picture is going to be transmitted to earth and then it has to be reconstructed by a color to get correct colors in etc etc etc.
So that argument is all wet and has been since the 1960's when pictures of the whole earth were taken by the Apollo missions.
Yeah, I know. When you’re on a phone and you’re pressed for time.
What are you going to do?
