Adding to the rising numbers of people who have either fallen ill or died while visiting Dominican Republic hotels and resorts, a group of Oklahoma-based Jimmy Buffett fans allegedly grew violently sick while visiting the Dominican Republics Hotel Riu Palace Macao on an April group trip to Punta Cana.
Dana Flowers, a member of the Central Oklahoma Parrothead Association (who also serves as the groups travel agent), tells PEOPLE that 47 of the 114 people on the the trip got sick, with many unable to leave their rooms. He said some are still not feeling normal two months later.
We went [to Hotel Riu Palace Macao] for the week some longer, some shorter, he tells PEOPLE. We were enjoying the beach and the pool, and about 3 or 4 days into the trip we started hearing about people getting sick. They were getting diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, headaches.
Flowers says the group initially chalked the mystery ailment up to food poisoning, but their symptoms began to worsen. Flowers, who was among those affected by the illness, claims he lost 14 pounds over the course of 19 days. It was some of the worst sick Ive ever been, and I dont normally ever get sick, he says.
Flowers claims that everyone who grew ill in his group either swam in one specific pool or drank at the swim-up bar. When members of the group sought treatment from the on-site doctor, Flowers claims, Most of them got an IV, then were prescribed a medicine for parasites. [They] didnt do any testing, they just automatically gave them medicine for parasites.

That’s what I don’t understand.
Between food/alcohol poisoning and just downright dangerous, why risk it?
Something in the water? (Fire Water?)
William “Penn” Warren’s brat commie che’ kin.... the caribbean commie connection.... down for the count with the downtrodden islanders, so they’ll serve him a hemingway drink. Lord, what an f’n BORE.
I was in Punta Cana at the end of March. Drank extensively at the swim-up bar and had some from the mini-bar too.
Didn’t get sick. At least not worse than I deserved.
That’s the main takeaway.
Really-— not when the freaks can go through canada to cuba and find all the real TURISTA sickness... along with pre-teen hookers (female and male)..... US dollar only, for Raul’s swiss banco de cuba account.
things are not good in buffett- fake hemingway land. The real people are taking over, the regular folks.
And then, there’s always Haiti-— if you’re liking little boys or major communicable disease, like AIDS (where it all started btw, with cuban black soldiers bringing it to now dead prostitutes in Haiti). Lovely world isn’t it?
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
Yes he is-— sharp merchant type, long way from regular guy— and photog’d at hillary fundraiser in the Hamptons (swank) and during the party.... changed his prescription glasses frames/colors three different times. More than a little too much. He used to could write, and he has helped some friends.
Like the popular thing to do for irish lefties— catch a russkie plane to Havana— and don’t forget the pepto bismol, rennies and acetominophen (paracetamol).... and they call it
“Hawana”.
Would that it could be what it was in the 50’s sensual heterosexual and unwatered drinks.
“So I did like she said, threw my suitcase on the bed
Packed my Rennies, Pepto-Bismol, Paracetamol
And I’m feelin’ no pain on some funky Russian plane
Headin’ down the Caribbean to forget it all”

I wonder if any of them had the name Morris?
From “Morris’ Nightmare”:
So they save a little money
Take a little trip
They only see the islands from a tacky cruise ship
Buy a little liquor
Buy some sea shells
Husband tries to sleep
Wife just yells
Morris, you can sleep when you get home
Down in the islands where the happy folks stay
Everybody do what Biwana man say
He say its ok, it’s ok
Buffets music aint great, but its not that bad.

They should try putting lime in a coconut and drink it all up.
I’ve always loved his, ‘Come Monday.’
It’s just so heartfelt and reminds me of when I had to travel a lot for my job (Army) when I just wanted to be HOME. *SNIF*
“They should try putting lime in a coconut and drink it all up.”
LOL!
It's supposed to be a lot nicer to visit than is neighboring Haiti.
“Damn, I was going to go there!”
i’ve moved it to last on my bucket list, so that if i kick the bucket there, i won’t have missed anything ...
I do like that tune.
Ill confess that Buffet and Marley are in our playlist for warm Sunday afternoons by the pool.
There are worse ways to spend a day.

Sue him.
Put them both together?
