Well according to Box Office Mojo this morning the recent Shaft movie starring Free Republic Fan Favorite Samuel L. Jackson BOMBED at the Box Office over the weekend.
Total Domestic Gross $8.3 Million. What a huge disappointment for the studio.
Check out Life and Fate...Russian made with Russian cast...About battle for Stalingrad...Good peek into life under scientific socialism aka Stalin’s Communism...Not fun to live in fear...
I found it on Netflix...
Richard Roundtree stars in the movie as the grandfather who is eager to get back in the game.
Most of the movie is about Samuel L Jackson’s son, JJ Shaft, an FBI analyst. He is an analyst and not an agent because he does not like guns.
The whole story is about turning JJ Shaft from a gun free FBI bureaucrat into a gun loving private citizen.
The movie is very libertarian, very pro-gun, very anti-bureaucratic swamp that can’t do anything right. very social conservative against drugs.
Mixed message on family responsibility. Very strong boys-will-be-boys pro-masculine anti-cis message.
I found it very consistent with the original Shaft movies, which were very popular in the White, Hispanic and Black areas of Chicago I was in at the time.
Too bad nobody saw to build on that libertarian spirit back then.
The movie is very anti-homo, very politically incorrect.
The bad guys in the movie are in a group called
Brothers-on-Brothers.
Everyone but the bad guys is anti-PC in discussing that BonB.
This is a very pro-masculine movie. very anti-Gender studies.
Goodfellas
Samuel Jackson, Arnold Swarzenegger, John Wayne always play themselves.
Denzel Washington, Clint Eastwood almost always play themselves. But occasionally they have a good “character”.
Robert DeNiro is the best male actor with the true skills.
Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt have no talent.
Dan that was such an unwatchably stupid concept for a movie.
Damn. Stupid spellcorrupt.
I saw this movie on opening day. I have to say that I absolutely loved it!. It was the most fun I’ve had at the movie this year. I was inclined to dislike it because of Samuel L Jackson’s off-screen racist comments, but I gotta say, he played the part wonderfully. It is also interesting that they had Jackson make a number of statements that I’ll bet go very against his own racist beliefs.
Anyway, I can’t say enough about the movie. It was REALLY, REALLY enjoyable. At least for me.
Looks to me like it’s coming from overhead.
I’ve heard of mayonnaise and red dye being used for the “splatter”.
Sort of like how Rome started “reusing” older established monuments and temples?
What character does Jackson play? Shaft’s grandfather?
Did Isaac Hayes do the soundtrack for this one?
No? Then what good is it?
He was good in Matrix movies.
Great flick.
Damn, that brothas got fish in his shoes!
It did feature Roundtree. He played the original Shaft. Jackson played his son, and the new actor played his grandson. I had no interest, but idiot movie reviewer Katie Walsh savaged it for toxic masculinity and homophobia, so I kind of wish it had done better.
Blaxploitation movies are not good at the box office. Shaft was that in spades (no pun intended.)
I love going to the movies. And there hasn’t been much on the plate lately. Went to see John Wick 3 and it was boring.
