From my understanding, from some people we talked to, there was apparently an argument inside. Some type of argument that ensued into a gun battle, Lt. Jeff Edwards told reporters.
The off-duty LAPD officer reportedly works in the Southwest Division and shot and killed a man during an altercation after feeling threatened.
The injured were transported to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Witnesses at the scene told CBSLA reporter Nicole Comstock they heard an argument before hearing seven or eight shots.
The investigation is currently ongoing, but the officer is not currently in custody as investigators look into what may have prompted the shooting including the possibility of self-defense.

You are swimming upstream on this thread, trying to be logical.
No way of knowing from the information so far if the officer is a twisted bad man or a hero. I hope it is Door #2.

Anyone other than an off-duty officer in LA would not likely be allowed to be armed no matter how “threatened” he or she might feel. Getting a carry permit is at the discretion of the county sheriff and many (but not all) California sheriffs decline to grant the permit to unimportant folks like us.

True. But, the average ‘reasonable and prudent’ Joe citizen doesn’t get away with shooting someone because they ‘feel’ threatened. They must by reasonable standards be in danger of serious bodily harm or in fear for their lives. No ‘split second’ decision excuse for them.

I support law enforcement. In my mind, that doesn't mean supporting bully cops, or cops who are more than willing to shoot first and avoid questions later, or who walk around with rage on their sleeves.
And I certainly don't support those who practice antagonism toward police officers (and I admit that there are jerk police officers, as my statements above), and call themselves, First Amendment auditors.
But there is something going wrong in law enforcement. There are many, many YouTube videos that show this. Time was, the cop on patrol in your area was your friend. Now, this, unfortunately, may no longer be true.
One YouTube critic has an interesting observation: many YouTube videos show paunchy, bald cops. Many police officers exhibit rapid muscle/weight gain, enlarged breasts (in men), paranoia, hyperactivity, and male pattern baldness.
They are continually in a state or rage.
Those are all signs of steroid rage.
Yet, often when someone points these things out, they are accused of trying to bring down the police officers.
I think many police officers are in states of 'roid rage. They need help.

Yes, Ive known a few people who became cops that smelled of steroid abuse while on the job. But I understand they are constantly having physically fight people every day. Id probably consider it too.

I’ve been covering local government for my own newsblog for 10 years. City council, court, county commission, etc. Every time you turn around, there are more cameras watching the public, metal detectors, etc.
Years ago, I asked when would we (the public) have an opportunity to keep watch on public employees.
These First Amendment Auditors have answered that question.
True, some are over the top, but the seething contempt many “public employees” have for the taxpayers (who pay their salaires) is palpable on the videos.
They DON’T like being watched.

Exactly. Why were the other people shot?
A police officer should not be wounding innocent bystanders.
