An ex-student of the $40,000-a-year Washington DC private school attended by former presidents' children, is suing the institution after she failed to gain unconditional acceptance from 13 top colleges. Dayo Adetu – who attended Sidwell Friends School from 2000 to 2014 – claims in a lawsuit that the school acted against her in college applications, test scores, rankings and recommendations, after she had previously settled for $50,000 in a July 2013 discrimination suit. Adetu's parents Titilayo and Nike Adetu had accused the school of using 'biased, improper scoring' and claimed they accommodated for other students' involvement in athletics but 'steadfastly refused' to do the same for their daughter, mainly when it came to mathematics.

Then what’s her complaint??? The University of PA is an ivy league school.

The article says she didn't get "unconditional" acceptance to any of the schools she wanted. I'm guessing she wanted a free ride, didn't get it and is suing SF because she thinks they didn't sufficiently puff her up to the colleges. I'm also guessing that she was admitted to SF as an affirmative action athlete and didn't have the athletic skills, grades or test scores to get a free ride anywhere.

Oh, she wanted a 4 year scholarship, lol. Now she’s going to have to work as a barista in summertime.

Poor little rich baby is too proud to have to take some remedial education classes in the first semester as a condition for acceptance?

My God. Can you imagine the shame and humiliation of having to go to the University of Pennsylvania?

Her life must be a living hell.

“They give other Nigerians a bad name.”

I worked with an engineer from Nigeria, a great guy to work with! A US Navy veteran and Citizen of the USA.

I mentioned this to a friend deep inside the educational system, he explained that Nigerians in the USA are AHEAD of most Americans.
He showed a bunch of numbers to back it up.
A quick search...
https://www.chron.com/news/article/Data-show-Nigerians-the-most-educated-in-the-U-S-1600808.php

Nigerian immigrants have the highest levels of education in this city and the nation, surpassing whites and Asians, according to Census data bolstered by an analysis of 13 annual Houston-area surveys conducted by Rice University.

“The typical saying in a Nigerian household is that the best inheritance that a parent can give you is not jewelry or cash or material things, it is a good education,” he said. “It is expected.”

I have heard almost the exact words from Jewish friends!

Well, in fairness, it's not a real ivy. (Flame suit on. :-)

These schools sell the fact that they have the ability to get you a free ride at a top college. That is why their tuition is so high. If they didn’t dedicate the time to help this kid, she should sue them. Not sure what went on though.

How do you account for athletics in math?

I mean, legitimately.

No, they sell (1) the fact that your kid will be hanging around the kids of rich and influential people, and (2) the fact there is a track record of their kids getting kids into good colleges. They offer no guarantee that your kid will get into a good college, much less a guarantee that your kid will get a free ride. The lawsuit is ludicrous and the girl's lawyer should be hit with sanctions.

That was my first thought, that she was admitted to the prep school to boost its “diversity” bona fides, then didn’t even meet the minimum standards for the elite colleges she felt entitled to attend.

The admissions people at the ivy colleges don't need to check for court cases. The private secondary schools know exactly how to write letters of recommendation that, on the surface, seem to be positive, but actually warn the schools that the applicant is to be avoided.

Spelman didn't accept her. What does that tell you.

“So the colleges saw that the litigious troublemaker sued their school and opted not to become the next school to be sued. What’s not to understand?”

Exactly my first thought. What college would invite her to attend, knowing her parents’ litigious history of making trouble for the school?
