Much to the chagrin and disdain of many my good American colleagues at this publication, I am a soccer fan. I love the beautiful game, its mesmerizing stars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Renaldo. I appreciate the tactics, and even the ties, ties, ties. So this week I decided to give the womens World Cup a try. I regret to inform you good readers that it is awful, and bordering on unwatchable. At first I couldnt quite tell what the problem was. There were 22 people kicking a ball around with exceptional skill, tight triangle passing, counter attacks, everything I usually look for in a good fixture. So why was I bored out of my mind watching these games I tried to endure?

For all its undeserved hyped, this team can be crushed by any average high school boy’s team. It’s like watching paint dry, and they want more $$$ for a crappy product performed by self consumed idiots who dishonor our country.
I know, right? All ethical scientists condemn the use of protomatter. But it was the only expedient way to solve certain technical problems...
Like father like son, I guess.
Doggy style was invented so ugly girls can have action too.
Lost me here: “The most exciting moments in a soccer match...”
Soccer, like baseball or cricket, is best watched while doing something else.
In hockey, you have the blue lines to give a clear indication of what is offsides. In soccer, offsides is not so clear cut, and much harder for the newbies or casual fans to understand. I think it has something to do with players going past the linesmen before the ball, but that is a moving target that nobody pays attention to, and if they are watching on TV, viewers often can’t even see the linesmen. A team is attacking and starts what looks like a breakaway, and suddenly the referee gives the ball to the other team. Even the players are asking “why?”. Keep offsides to prevent snowbirds hanging around the goal, but make it clearer for everyone. Maybe FIFA could adopt something like the 35 yard lines from the old NASL.
Take the total pay for both teams. Put it in a pot. Have the women play the men 5 times. Then divide the pot of money proportionate to the wins. If the women win 60% of the matches, they can divide up 60% of the pot.
My guess is the women’s team wouldn’t want that offer.
You obviously haven’t seen the Men’s team play recently.
I hate soccer, regardless of who is playing.
Sports are meant to be PLAYED. If you are a parent, watch your kids play.
If the US Men’s team can’t beat the US Women’s team, they should be disbanded and subjected to a lifetime of ridicule.
I watch women’s sports avidly - when one of my daughters are playing.
That’s about it.
yeah, not exciting like hand-egg

LOL...... Interesting how different parts of the world use
differing terms to describe things.
Lol, continuous “action” and 15-30 seconds of drama.
Baseball is actually the only sport that I enjoy listening to almost as much as watching. I still follow baseball because I can enjoy listening to it while doing something productive in my shop.
You are wronger. The game would adjust, more dynamic, more goals, no bitching about boring game. Team Handball and Basketball use it.
So why was I bored out of my mind watching these games I tried to endure?
Because it was soccer?
I have to admit, I find your approach preferable. I would propose one small tweak, however.
Even one as hard-nosed as me would concede it might be too much to expect one side to play for free (or simply patriotic pride), so if one side gets skunked, and only if the final outcome was 5 games to nil (to toss in a little soccer lingo for atmosphere), the salary pot would be divvied up on the basis of the fraction of total goals scored by each side. At least that way the losing side - whichever one that might possibly be - would at least get something (well, maybe).
Suggest you actually play or coach the game. Modern soccer is watchable due to the offside rule. Actually (as a coach) the fans may be bitch but we generally accept the offside call as part of the game and build defensive strategies around it. Like an offside trap. Actually experts on the game believe it makes the modern game. One reason is the high quality of modern athletes. You do not want the offside rule play grade school kickball they do not have offsides.
second level men who are trans will soon replace women in sports.
