Trump defends remarks about accepting information from foreign government
The Hill ^ | 06-13-19 | BRETT SAMUELS

President Trump on Thursday defended his comment that he would listen if a foreign entity offered damaging information on a political opponent, equating it to his contacts with foreign governments as part of his role as president. In a series of tweets, the president sought to downplay the significance of his comment a day earlier to ABC News, which critics argued invited a foreign power to interfere in the 2020 election and some Democrats highlighted as reason to begin impeachment proceedings. Trump first suggested listening to damaging information from a foreign actor was equivalent to holding diplomatic meetings with foreign heads of state, while later arguing Democrats were guilty of improper contacts.

“Listening to information is not the same as acting upon it.”

Exactly. Listening to what someone has to say and then making a decision based on what you have heard is a normal thing to do. President Trump said he might go to the FBI. IMHO this is a non story.

I think he has proof that Hillary’s campaign took information from foreign governments. He is setting them up.

Or maybe the POTUS is the one setting the trap. Hillary is the one who did this, the media are having a fit over this, and when everything is declassified and the truth is known, the media hacks are going to have egg all over the foolish photogenic faces. Not that they won’t brazenly lie and tell us that is entirely different, of course.

“Why would you do one if you had no intent of doing the other?”

It would depend on what the information was. You may do nothing, you may act upon it or if criminal go to the FBI.

Exactly... But the press is too dumb to realize that’s what he’s doing.

Why would you do one if you had no intent of doing the other?

If someone told me they had 'dirt' on an opponent I would listen to their evidence but I wouldn't do anything without independent verification from other trusted sources.

It's like reading rumors on the internet. I read them but I don't necessarily believe them especially if they fit a narrative and I don't personally know the source and their motives and biases.

'Listen but verify before taking any action'.

Why would acting on it be a necessity.

It might be as stupid as the Dossier that the Dems acted on.....for a FISA warrant....but NEVER verified the contents.

“”which critics argued invited a foreign power to interfere in the 2020 election and some Democrats highlighted as reason to begin impeachment proceedings.””

WOW - leave it up to those brilliant demon-rats to latch onto that! They don’t miss a thing, do they?

Reminds me of his “cynical” remark about Russia being able to find Hillary’s emails (AFTER THEY’D BEEN DESTROYED) and the demon-rats saying, “SEE -he’s asking Russia to help him.” IMPEACH HIM!

How did any of these people manage to complete grade school, let alone college or law school? We need an amendment to the U. S. Constitution - NO MEMBER OF CONGRESS SHALL HAVE A LAW DEGREE!!

I really think President Trump does this purposefully ... and for a variety of reasons. Notwithstanding, the Democrats/Leftists have the higher ethical ground as they would never, ever, ever do such a thing ... HA!!

I wish he would have said “Yes, I’d love info like that, and would even be willing to spend campaign money on it if it was good enough”- if he had, you would have seen a massive stampede by the left to check themselves into mental institutions- then, after the liberal meltdown, he could come out and say “Nah- just messin with ya!”

Trump was an idiot for sitting down with Stephanopoulos that partisan hack from the Clinton administration. But once he did, and was asked that question oh, he thought for the obvious Ambush it was. One, the clintons stock-in-trade is been foreign collusion all the way back to the Chinese days of the 90s.

But if he got Trump to agree for the proposition that the FBI should be called if a foreigner offers any dirt on the opposition, that guaranteed that about a year from now that they would run a foreigner at the 2020 Trump campaign with the most juicy dirt you’ve ever heard. Then Stephanopoulos and his crew would be waiting for the FBI to let them know whether or not Trump reported it. Total setup.

Trump is also jacking the SocialDemocrats to keep the investigation mania at fever pitch. It gets him continuous mega press and keeps the SDs from talking about anything real. If the SDs are still all about hysteria and “getting” DJT in October of next year he wins big and probably wins back the House and gains a bit more in the Senate.

Didn’t work with the Russians. She work with Steele and the intelligence community. They created the entire dossier of thin air. Also their servers were not hacked. There was an internal theft and that you murdered Seth Rich because of it. And they have Julian Assange locked up because of it. There’s not a word of Truth in this entire narrative.

Guess it’s not a problem when Democrats are involved with foreigners in our elections (or are involved in theirs).

Nancy and the Dems are having a field day barking at a squirrel up a very big wrong tree.

I agree.

Any campaign will pick up on something negative - from anywhere - about their opponent. But the Dems actually had to make up something negative and wash it through foreign sources (mostly CIA or State Dept connected) to make it look like it had actually come from a foreign source to begin with so they could get the FISA stuff done.
