Four more men have been arrested in the Dominican Republic for the shooting of David 'Big Papi' Ortiz and four other suspects remain at large, wanted for the murder-for-hire plot that they were offered $7,800 to carry out.

The men - some of whom are wanted for crimes in the US - were named at a press conference in Santo Domingo where officials also held up the gun used to shoot Ortiz, 43, in the back.

Police would not confirm a motive but they said the men were offered $7,800 for the attack, the equivalent of 400,000 pesos.

That was put on Ortiz's head by an as-yet unnamed person.

I thought the same thing. I am no expert but I watch the Nat Geo show “Drugs Inc”. One episode they talked to a hit man for a Mexican cartel and he explained how they off people. A lot better planned than the hit on Ortiz.

"One shot in the back. Wasn’t much of a “hit.”"

How dead did you want him?

The original story indicated the hit was ordered by some drug kingpin because Ortiz was messing with his girlfriend.

As a hockey fan, I’m hoping Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins makes the Dominican Republic his regular off-season vacation spot. :-P

I wonder why Ortiz wasn’t taken to the greatest hospital system in the world - Havana. Surely Cuba is closer to the DR than Boston is, but for some reason, Ortiz (a likely democrat supporter) elected for the longer flight when his life was in jeopardy.

Ortiz was involved with a wife of a Dominican drug lord, most likely.

Or is it that there is a baseball player that Mr.Ortiz was recruiting for the B-Soxs,maybe one that when he was a kid used to belong to street gang in the DR,and with a brighter ahead of him, to become a MLB player? Remember many outstanding players besides Mr.Ortiz come from the DR.

Just my IMHO and question.

David Ortiz should never visit the Dominican Republic again.

Agreed....and he should bring whatever family he has left there to the US

As a side note, I'm wondering if those tourists who died at that one hotel were poisoned by a cartel that might be trying to extort protection money from that resort......

Obviously a cheap rookie, a pro would have made a head shot......

Nice caboose.

And that could be where the crazy eyed wife doesn't measure up (or is it "out"?). But messing with the goomah of a drug lord? Not a smart move.

If you look at the video it looks like the gun jammed after the first shot
