US defends itself after humiliating Thailand at Women's World Cup

Thailand's players were in tears at the full-time whistle after suffering the heaviest defeat in World Cup history at the hands of the US.

There were those on social media who criticized the defending champions for celebrating each goal, but Alex Morgan -- who became only the second American to score five in a World Cup match -- told reporters that "every goal counts."

With the US 3-0 up by halftime, the match was effectively over. With the title holders then proceeding to score four goals in the space of six minutes early after the break, it was a rout by the 56th minute.

But Ellis proceeded to make attacking substitutions, bringing on forwards Mallory Pugh, Carli Lloyd and Christen Press, decisions she defended after the match.

The Thai team is supported by a wealthy patron, the general manager Nualphan Lamsam, who is the chief executive of one of the country's largest insurance companies.

Her family's company sponsors Thailand's fledgling women's league, and players on the national team are also employed by her company.

Do you understand the rules for world cup tie breakers and standings?

And should the woman who was put in later in the game, who has never scored in a freakin’ world cup game NOT supposed to celebrate.

My guess is your idea of sportsmanship is for little league and pick up games. Not the world cup.

Does the winner of the World Cup get to play the Dallas Under-15s?

War is not a game;
A game is not war.

You obviously are a product of the modern (so called) age where the two have become the same thing, which they are not. Those twats have no excuse for their poor behavior and rotten sportsmanship.

Lesbians seem to get particular pleasure from humiliating people. Men, of course, but even more so other women.

I usually have a grudging respect for your positions, but in this case I have to disagree. The tie breaking system in World cup standings is score differential. So, all things being equal, your winning margin will determine your seeding in the tournament.

In other words, the entire system rewards running up the score.

This has nothing to do with sex parts.

They do it that way to avoid games looking like this during the second half:

"Right.....Passes it to Center......Passes it back.......Holds it!.......To Center!!! Holds it! Holds it!"

My daughter played for a very good lacrosse team in high school. After they got up by 5 goals, they would go into “Code Blue.”

During a code blue, they would have to pass at least 10 times before taking a shot. Then if they did not score it would go up another count before they could take a second shot. And they would start counting—not to humiliate the other team—but to keep track.

It would get rather boring, and they usually won by eight to ten goals.

The Goal Scoring was not the issue - rules dictate scoring as many as they can to win 1st tie breaker - the issue is the over the top celebration on goal 9, 10, 11, etc...

"You need to save at least one in case of injury."

That's not what the article says above. They listed the 3 substitutions she made, all of them with the intention of running up the score more. No injury reserve sub set-asides that I can see.

And I have to ask the other FR apologists for the US Social Justice Warriorettes Team: Are the ecstatic celebrations after the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th & 13th goals also vitally important in determining the "Bracketing"? Does FIFA record the decibels & duration of each rub-it-in-the-Thai's-face, twist-the-knife celebration, to use for Thai-breakers?

Organized where? In the US we also teach sportsmanship to our youth. This includes not going crazy with a runaway game and rubbing it into the face of the loser. If the American team had handled it correctly, and they seem to think the differential of this one game is going to be required for the team that went undefeated in 2018, they should have got their goals, quickly shook hands, and moved on if it was needed. If they were just padding for the differential, then it is business not the grand parade they seemed to think was in line. Is seems to me that every team that is going to play Thailand is going to win big with the lack of talent they have.

Factually, I applaud Thailand for one major reason that was almost mentioned late in the game by the announcers: the Americans were putting second string players in to replace the main body of team to get them playing time. But another reason they did it was to protect the starting players from injury accomplished by an embarrassed and “shown up” Thailand team. If they get red carded, so what, the game is over already. You can run up a score, but don’t disrespect you opponent. Get your goals, but don’t rub their face in it. It can get you hurt.

Watching those women wildly celebrating after crushing an inferior opponent was reminiscent of the affect and behavior of a child crushing bugs

And there lies the real problem. Yes, I fully understand the need to score goals given the rules in the event of a tie in the bracket, but good sportsmanship demands humility in this particular situation.

You miss the next game if you get a red card.

What an odious, unlikable team. They come off as a bunch of a$$holes.

This gang, of unpatriotic, Trump-hating, anthem-kneeling jerks being pushed by the mainstream media do not deserve our support.

I understand that. If you scored a goal in the your first World Cup game, wouldn’t you be excited? As long as they weren’t taunting, I get it it.
