A 9-year-old boy in California used his allowance money to pay off school lunch debts for his entire third-grade class, KGO-TV/ABC7 News reported.
When Ryan Kirkpatrick, a student at West Park Elementary School, learned that some kids cannot afford lunch at school and have to take on debt, he wanted to make a difference, according to his mom, Kylie Kirkpatrick.
Ryan asked his mom to find out how much his peers at his own school owed for lunches, and his mom discovered it was about $74.50. The price of school lunches range from 30 cents to $3.25 each.
What do you want to do? Kirkpatrick asked her son, according to KGO-TV/ABC7 News. He said, 'I guess I can pay for it.' I said, 'are you sure?' And he said, 'yes.' "
Ryan would usually use his allowance money to buy sports gear, like autographed baseballs, but he gave it to the school anonymously.
I want them just to realize people actually think about them instead of just telling them what they did because you're just bragging about stuff, Ryan said. I want them to feel happy that someone cares about them."
Students with negative accounts are still given hot meals at lunchtime at the school, according to ABC News.
Punk/Bitch/Ho tryin to pay off hiz white privilege.
This just one: the 5th grade class is sueing e kid for not paying off their school lunch debt!
Kid will soon learn an important life lesson: “No good deed goes unpunished”. Typically, some of the kids he paid the debt for will beat the s#it out of him after school. Hate to be a cynic but...
No child in our district will ever be able to pay off our schools lunch program. Claremont, NH school district is 32 thousand dollars in the red as parents won’t pay for their childrens lunches. A benevolent anonymous person paid off the first bill and now this.
I'd like to think it was altruistic, but, unfortunately, I agree.
He simply hasn't yet figured out how to do it with other people's money instead if his own.
Shouldn’t Child Protective Services be looking at all these parents for possible Neglect?
The ones that should be embarrassed are the parents of the other kids.
Go feed the old folks Ryan.
Tell me about it. Witnessed a kid with a rather extensive lunch debt whos mother had no problem taking vacations and acquiring material items.
Poor kid was just learning to wet his beak and the parents do this to him.
I guarantee Bernie Sanders would never have done that. And forget about the Clintoons and their used underwear donations.
Before GoFundMe, this kid would be a sucker trying to buy esteem.
After GoFundMe, he is a clever scammer.
When I was a kid I went to school lunch and many times did not have enough to buy lunch because my parents did not care. This was a good thing the kid did and the resulting publicity. It may wake up some parents to their responsibilities.
