I mention the debate in the original post. Ben Franklin also commented on the Iroquois Federation when our government was forming. There is no question, our Republic is a hybrid. There are many similarities. Due to the Iroquois Sachem Shikellamy being friends with the Penn Family, he convinced the Iroquois to side with the British in the French/British war.

However, the tribe was large and extended into Canada. Some sided with the French.
