I have never heard that the United States was modeled after an Indian Federation that existed here before Columbus arrived.
Can you back that up with a plausible source?

I mention the debate in the original post. Ben Franklin also commented on the Iroquois Federation when our government was forming. There is no question, our Republic is a hybrid. There are many similarities. In 1988, the U.S. Senate paid tribute with a resolution3 that said, "The confederation of the original 13 colonies into one republic was influenced by the political system developed by the Iroquois Confederacy, as were many of the democratic principles which were incorporated into the constitution itself." https://www.pbs.org/native-america/blogs/native-voices/how-the-iroquois-great-law-of-peace-shaped-us-democracy/

Supposedly there are mentions of the confederacy in letters between Franklin and Jefferson. They were interested in the separation of powers and how each tribe could rule their own affairs as long as they didnt interfere with others. Kind of like states rights were intended to be. The old women in the Long House were like the Supreme Court and in many ways still are today. It’s an interesting subject worth considering.
