With the gopE jumping in and saying they will reject the tariffs, Trump’s hand was weakened considerably.

The Senate Repukes never had the votes to stop the tariffs.

Trump is doing this deal with Mexico because it gives them one last chance to do the right thing without the heavy hand of force (the tariffs) being brought down upon them.

I hope it works, but I have my doubts that the Mexican government is even capable of complying. Even if capable, there is so much entrenched rot in their system, that there may not be the willingness to see it through.

I've felt the same way since news of this deal first broke. I'm no fool. Mexico and the other countries south of our border aren't going to suddenly change their ways.

The Mexican government might be listening to Trump, but the migrant invaders and the coyotes only hear the sweet jingle of US coins.
