A long time ago I was on a plane that had trouble securing a door.

In my final year in the USAF in 1986, I worked for a joint command that was headed by an admiral; U. S. Forces Caribbean. He was given an old C-39 to get around the Carib.

On one flight back from Honduras the comms guys I worked with said that the seals on the door were so shot that they could see light around the door. When the aircraft fell out of the sky with both engines out, and only recovered at 5,000 feet, the admiral refused to fly in that aircraft again and told the air force to give him a NEW personal transport.

As a re-enlistment incentive, I was offered a chance to be the admirals radioman during a deployment to Honduras. I decided to get out of the service rather than fly with him.

Did they check at Nellis for a plane that maybe landed minus a door?

Too long ago to remember but I think it was regional airline. It was a short flight.

Not a crew entry door. Looks like an panel or cowling.

I fly Delta a lot because I can get cheaper fare and it s a good cabin atmosphere, unlike United. Delta, however, sometimes has problems getting their planes off the ground and switching flights seems to be common.

“A panel fell from an A-4 aircraft near a Las Vegas residence today. The A-4 belongs to Draken International...”

Draken does dissimilar aircraftACM training. I tried to take a pic of one of their A4s last time I was at Nellis and got to have a conversation with a nice, your Security Forces Airman.

“Did they check at Nellis for a plane that maybe landed minus a door?”

I doubt it. Besides, it’s more fun to “speculate” on sure things!
