A ruction?
Dang. Even I had to look that word up.
A ruction has consequences................
(From the Irish Ditty “Finnegan’s Wake)
Then the war did soon engage,
‘twas woman to woman and man to man,
Shillelagh law was all the rage
and a row and a ruction soon began!
A fight broke out at an auction?
I seem to recall that when our kids were learning to read they should read books ahead of their level with several(?) new words on each page that they would have to look up.
Two of my kids would just sort of get maybe the gist of what the word is and read on. The one would look up EVERY single new word in her big dictionary. Took her forever to read a book!
She is now quite the writer though!

As you get older, you're happy if there is any ruction at all.
The teacher had a ruction?
I didn't think it was one of THOSE teacher-student threads...

Is this where “ruckus” comes from? I thought I was using a legitimate word for commotion; now I wonder if it’s a dumbing-down of her word!
We learn something every day. Small, easy word, but still never heard it!
