Crossbow is quieter than a . 22
That is blatantly CRUEL, causing a slow and painful death. What the heck is the matter with you?
Find where they are coming from. Eat asparagus every other day. Wait until night and piss in the parameter you think they are coming in. Do this every other day and after it rains. You can also try human hair from a barbershop to stop other rodents as well
Short term, I have no solution to offer but the usual take steps to secure your chickens and small animals...Foxes prey primarily on small rodents...
Long term, they move around a lot, moving their territory once their usual prey animals become scarce...They won’t be around for long once kits are raised...Then they usually move on...
We had a family of foxes in our neighborhood...We also had abundant cottontails...Soon after I noticed a dearth of rabbits, the foxes were gone...Nature’s way...
5 weeks ago we had vixen and 5 kits under our porch. We managed to get some marvelous shots of the mother nursing and the kits romping about. Once they realized we were there they simply moved off to quieter and safer areas. While they were here they were delightful. We have a 70 pound English Springer and a 20 pound Maine Coone. As far as I know there were no interactions - though of course both Jack and Buddy knew there was a fox about.
When my foxes first showed up, I was nervous. I immediately did an online study and spoke to my vet. Both told me that cats and foxes together are not a problem. Nearly everyone concluded that cats claws can and do inflict wounds that are deep enough to cause problems for foxes and foxes seem to know that.
That said, I guess there might always be exceptions.
NO!
an idiot neighbor used antifreeze. That one fox roamed the neighborhood for about a month. It was horrible to watch him suffer. It wasn't visible at first. Saw him one day at my fish pond trying to get a drop of water. One day he followed a worker unto my property just like a dog would follow his master. He acted as if he wanted help and just lay down under a honeysuckle tree. Stayed there while the workers worked with an excavator just a few feet away from him. Finally I called the police. He came and shot the fox.
Antifreeze is extremely cruel.
I disposed of 77 squirrels about ten years ago that were eating all the fruit in our many fruit trees. They would take one bite of a piece of fruit that was going to be perfectly tree ripened in a day or two and leave the partially eaten fruit on top of our fence posts as if to taunt me.
I bought a Hav-A-Hart trap and starting my campaign. Before using the trap, I first plugged one at 30 feet with a 0.177 RWS pellet gun. Unfortunately, the pellets enter and exit squirrel bodies and don’t expand at pellet gun velocities. So the critter scampers up a fence post, runs across 20 feet of fence...and then falls off and dies — on the OTHER SIDE of the fence. The woman over there cares for every wounded animal on the planet and I knew that, if she found that carcass on her property, I’d be in big trouble. So I made a gaff from a long pole and a bent nail to fish the carcass up while standing on my ladder. That was a lot of fun dressed in my work clothes at 6:15 am.
After that little bit of fun, I stopped using the pellet gun and switched to the trap with other disposal methods.
I finally got to eat my fruit!
When we had them living in a culvert under our drive i just tossed a bunch of mouth balls into the culvert
We built a fox den, and a fox family took up residence, but they didn’t stay. We thought that our dogs were staying on their side of the property and the foxes on their side. Maybe not. We don’t have chickens or the whole arrangement would have been problematic. Red Tailed Hawks (chickenhawks) are the denizens of chickens around here.
I recommend a Girandoni air rifle designed by Tyrolian inventor Bartholomäus Girandoni. .46 caliber, 210 grains, 500 fps. They hit hard and do the job very humanely. Unfortunately, they are a bit hard to find these days.
Truly the fruits of your labor.

Antifreeze won’t just kill the foxes, which are generally okay animals to have around, it will kill any animal that happens to drink it. Neighborhood cats, loose dogs, even kids, so antifreeze is definitely the wrong way to go.
Don’t worry about the foxes. They will move along in time. Feral cats are usually smart enough to avoid them but if a determined coyote comes along; they are likely going to be dinner.
Sorry, we used it once and it worked fast and was a long story, maybe we gave them the correct dose. We normally use strychnine if we can’t shoot pests, I imagine that is no fun either.
Government makes rules that cause you to choose an alternative. Catching them and releasing them would be the easiest and best thing to do. But because foxes are prone to rabies and they like your cat, dogs and small agricultural animals, you need to do something.
The legality of silencers for airguns is murky, but they are on the market. These do not fit common firearm threaded muzzles.

Like, OMG, FURRIES!!! REEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The #1 Way to Get Rid of Foxes for Good:
Urine.
And I dont mean marking your territory around the chicken coop or run. That wont deter these foxes- though its probably a good idea to still do that.
What you have do do is search out the actual den and urinate directly into it.
This can be quite fun for any young boys you might have at your place. Send them on a fox hunt and let them mark any areas that look like they might be fox dens.

Search youtube. Youtube has a video for everything.
