“When we had them living in a culvert under our drive i just tossed a bunch of mouth balls into the culvert”
I use moth balls to keep the feral cats away. Works like a charm.
One or more of your neighbors may be feeding them, by leaving food out at night for their “outside cat”, or other nonsense.
Silencer makes it even better. Make sure youre not one of the idiot freepers Ive seen recently who think silencers are only used by hitmen.
Not quieter than a silenced .22 with subsonics through a bolt/lever action rifle.
:)
I know several deer hunters who use suppressors....
At our suburban home we had a raccoon that was sick - acting like a zombie - passive, confused sort of “stuck” where a rock wall meets the house. I forget now what it had - but not rabies. Distemper?
I called county animal control, no help.
I called a professional guy, no answer.
Called another professional $100 trip fee, $100 removal, $50 disposal fee - he said “Just kill it and dump it in the garbage.”
I really do try to do things legally.
So my wife thought to call the cops. (Quiet suburban town).
The young cop comes out about a 15 minutes later (probably midnight now) and I’m asking what can be done about it.
“If it weren’t for all of your neighbors I would just shoot it.”
“I read up on the laws, and it is illegal for me to kill it - one has to be a pro, have a license, etc.”
“It is!? Well, that seems like a pretty dumb law. If it was me, I’d club it over the head with a hammer when nobody is watching, and toss it in the garbage. I’m going to leave now. And my report is going to say that the raccoon had wandered off before I got here. Have a nice night.”
We’ve had foxes for years and they don’t seem to mess with outdoor or feral cats - way too much chance of being seriously injured, which is death. Prey fights back, and most cats are half the weight of a fox or more, and foxes are lightly built.
I’ve seen two foxes tree a cat and then chase it off, probably because it had been prowling too close to the den and kits, but they did not want to engage it, just get rid of it.
Nature is likely to strike a new balance, providing either tougher cats, or foxes dining on rodents.
I hunt hog and coyotes with a suppressor. Efficient pest control. Coyotes are remarkably smart and hard to kill.
And cats can run straight up a tree - foxes can’t.
We just got a hound\lab dog and I had to show her where to go to the bathroom outside. Maybe - and I stress the maybe - there was a little too much beer in the urine and not from the dog either ;)
I did a search. How got get rid of foxes.
The #1 Way to Get Rid of Foxes for Good:
Urine.
And I dont mean marking your territory around the chicken coop or run. That wont deter these foxes- though its probably a good idea to still do that.
What you have do do is search out the actual den and urinate directly into it.
This can be quite fun for any young boys you might have at your place. Send them on a fox hunt and let them mark any areas that look like they might be fox dens.

Search youtube. Youtube has a video for everything.
I have to get a professional commercial trappers license for my own property. huh?

I have a Ruger 22 LR. I have not even shot it yet. Can I get a silencer for it?

Foxes are not coyotes. Foxes are less dangerous to cats than are other cats.
Same situation here. After a few years I stopped worrying that they would attack my outdoor (during the day) cat.
