Vanity - Where to look for American Soldier's grave in France
General Question | 6-6-19 | Red Badger

Posted on 06/06/2019 9:26:59 AM PDT by Red Badger

Does anybody know if there is a website that lists American Soldiers names and grave locations in France?

I had an uncle, my namesake, killed in France in WWII, age 19 in 1944, but I don't know where his grave is.

Anybody know how to locate it?

Thanks in advance,

Red Badger

The joke retort is - “try looking in the ground”

The actual response - Many WWII units are listed on Wiki and have references to unit web pages. For example, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/82nd_Airborne_Division#Units_during_WW_II.

These may unit web pages may be helpful in identifying which cemetery is most likely to provide results.

I was just about to send this link as well.

Of all the things on which our government spends money, this is one of the best returns. I had the opportunity last year, to visit the American Cemetery in Normandy, and it was so incredibly moving.

30 years ago, while in the Navy, I also took part in an Honor Guard service on Memorial Day, in the Rhone American Cemetery, in southern France. Such a wonderful experience.
