FULL TITLE: Trump says tariffs on Mexico will be imposed MONDAY after a breakdown in talks, despite an increase in military and police presence south of the border to stop the surge of migrants
Despite efforts by security forces south of the border to stop a migrant caravan, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard says no agreement was reached on tariffs during Wednesday's White House meeting with Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Ebrard says both countries will keep talking Thursday to find a way to stave off President Trump's threatened tariffs on all Mexican goods flowing into the United States.
Trump, who is in Europe to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, tweeted: 'Immigration discussions at the White House with representatives of Mexico have ended for the day. Progress is being made, but not nearly enough!
'Border arrests for May are at 133,000 because of Mexico & the Democrats in Congress refusing to budge on immigration reform.
'Further talks with Mexico will resume tomorrow with the understanding that, if no agreement is reached, Tariffs at the 5% level will begin on Monday, with monthly increases as per schedule.

Priorities!!
#### em. He should start at 25 percent
I know some who won’t comment are reading these posts and seething.
Good. They dont really understand what free trade is.
Or that ANYTHING to stop the border crisis is worth it at this point.
What a nightmare.
Trump will veto any bill the Congress passes to stop tariffs. They can’t stop POTUS from imposing them.
Or every month till it hits 25%, which is the plan.
I really think that Trump wants to go to 25%. He is looking to get the businesses that went to Mexico back one way or another. Mexico doesnt deserve these businesses and he wants them back.
While raising import tariffs may give Mexico second thoughts about its immigration policies this policy would halt the invasion
In the hundreds of postings here in Free Republic rarely is this brought up. Its Known As Reciprocity. We should be treating anybody illegally crossing the Mexican border into the US the way the Mexicans do;
Any American illegally .crossing into Mexico. Before being kicked out can get a heavy fine and possible imprisonment.
Its time we consider illegal entry by any person who is a non Mexican citizen illegally entering the United States through the US Mexican border a defacto Mexican citizen with limited Mexican constitutional rights subject to their laws while transiting. As well as any Mexican citizen entering illegally exempting those who do so legally.
According to the Mexican constitution Americans legally in Mexico get a 2nd class treatment. Besides being unable to vote one must also be a citizen to own land and Mexico is very restrictive about granting citizenship. Because of that a US citizen besides not being able to vote, and cannot have title in their name to any land property in Mexico. Its time the US should consider making that reciprocal.
Mexico has always been our enemy and has never been a friend of the United States. As far as I am concerned, we should tax remittances to Mexico and Latin America at 100% and stop all trade as they have nothing we want or need.
Put land mines on the entire border, troops with orders similar to the South / North Korea border and close the border for good. Aggressive kick-out every single illegal from every country.
Of course none of this is going to happen, but it is what I would want. We should shun Mexico and move on. Mexico is nothing but a major drag to the US culture and economy.
Use the money to build the wall, it’s a win win
At 5% it would raise $1.1Billion per month. Not even blip on the radar.
A 10% tariff on the amount of goods imported from Mexico would raise $2B/month. That amount of money doesn’t even move the needle. This is a symbolic move on the part of the RINOs, they are using this opportunity to send a message that the globalist cabal won’t stand for ANY tariffs at all.
Isn't just terrible that our President wants build up the USA's industrial base and bring jobs to the USA instead of exporting them? /sarc
Mexico’s hoping for a GOP bailout - been tweeting to a lot of them to tell them we are watching to see if they effectively vote/propose continuing open borders and influx of invaders.
“Bean Tax 2019”
No, “Beaner Tax 2019”
Better get some avacados as the price is going up.
In chess it is called forfeiture... and it us not a game winning strategy.
There is so much Trump could have done already, within his legitimate presidential powers.

This is kabuki.
Here’s both Trump’s admitted limpness on the issue — and an article clearly outlining how he could have stopped it all long before now:

Headline is wrong. Trump said he’d impose the tariff IF talks don’t pan out by the end of this week.
I want these tariffs so bad I can taste it. All patriots want them.
Question.
Who pays for the tariffs on imported goods coming into the USA.
