‘Jeopardy!’ leaker who spoiled James Holzhauer episode is in big trouble
NY Post ^ | 06/04/2019 | Aaron Feis

The answer: Polishing their résumé.

The question: How will a member of the “Jeopardy!” production team soon be spending their time?

“Jeopardy!” executive producer Harry Friedman said Tuesday that he thinks he knows who’s responsible for leaking the ending of James Holzhauer’s final episode, and that “very, very, very appropriate” action will be taken.

“We think we know where and who and how,” Friedman told the Washington Post, as he recounted the moment he learned on Sunday that a clip showing Holzhauer’s defeat in Monday’s episode was going viral.

“It amazes me that all the smart people playing Jeopardy can’t figure out how to wager “

The opposite is true, almost all of them do know how to wager.

There is a website that explains the best wager given the amount of money everyone has going into Final Jeopardy

Here is the example for last nights game

Most people in the lead bet enough to make sure that, if they get the answer right, they will win (i.e., enough to end up more than double the second place person). Knowing that, the second place person should bet such that, if the 1st place person misses the answer, they will have more money (regardless of their answer, right or wrong). Which is what James did, with the additional knowledge that he had to remain above double the third place person, whether he was right or wrong.

He lost because he didn’t control a single daily double of consequence and could not make it a runaway, and the woman was fast on the buzzer.

I’ve watched almost all the shows for years. I’ve noticed a certain affinity Trebeck has for the homo contestants, especially the smarter ones.

“That leaked probably caused the rating to rocket.”

I don’t understand your reasoning. I saw the leak and because of it, I decided not to watch.

Right, but think of it this way:

1. He and she were close. If she bet it all and was correct, then the she would win.
2. If he bet a little, and she was wrong, he would win.
3. if he bet a lot and and was wrong, he would come in 3rd and win $1k.
4. If he bet a little and he was right, he would come in second and win $2k.

Therefore, he made the bet that would have make him the most money overall.

She was right; and she bet big. She only had one choice.

It was the right thing to do to walk away with the most money if he wasn’t 100% sure of the answer.

Not “very appropriate” or “very, very appropriate” but the dreaded “very, very, very appropriate” punishment will be unleashed...

He could not have won even if he’d bet his entire amount, because the winner’s bet was enough to beat that. The only way for him to win was for the woman who won to have answered Final Jeopardy incorrectly, so, there’s no way he “threw” it. And anyway, why woukd he?

If you read is reasoning it makes perfect sense. He was $6000 or so below the leader. He figured the leader was going to be all in, as she was. The only way he would win would be if she missed her question and he got the question.

OR... OR...

OR if he figured she would miss, after betting everything, and he bet enough just to cover the third place guy.

IOWs made no sense for him to bet everything, as he probably felt sure she would get the answer right.

I agree, actually when you think about it, it’s almost as though he knew the outcome in advance.

Rigged topics for the librarian. She was quick with the draw, too. James was the fastest in the West till then...

As soon as "Shakespeare's Time" showed up on that screen, James knew the librarian knew and it was over.

I did think it was serendipitous for the librarian to have that as the final question.

Fortunately, I did not hear of the leaks, so I was able to be shocked when James crashed and burned.

It is like one of those “game theory” questions where the goal is to walk away with the most money for him. Most people “assume” it means going for the fence. But in this case that is not the right move.

People will be talking about this like the Monty Hall Game question.

Here you go. But don’t let logic and reason stand in your way of thinking.
