Cosmetics retail chain Sephora will reportedly close all of its brick-and-mortar U.S. stores, distribution centers and corporate offices Wednesday for a company-wide diversity training program.
The closures come after R&B music artist SZA, who is black, said in April she was racially profiled by employees at a Sephora store in Southern California, according to a Reuters report.
In a post on Twitter about the incident, SZA said a Sephora employee she identified as Sandy called security to watch her and make sure she was not stealing.
Sephora spokesperson Emily Shapiro told Reuters that the company-wide closures of Sephora stores is not in response to any one event.
In addition to the companys inclusivity workshops scheduled for Wednesday, Sephora is rolling out a marketing campaign called We Belong to Something Beautiful aimed at promoting diversity.
SZA reportedly used to work at Sephora in the skin-care department before her successful music career took off.

hmm, i would just close all brick and mortar operations and just move to the inet. less hassle with amish ghetto types wanting freedum dis and freedum dat. lol.
Yes, kind of brings a tear to the eye. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m having a bit of a hard time imagining Pavarotti singing this.
So now black shoplifters will operate with impunity at Sephora.
The lesson will be “if you suspect a minority of stealing, let them do it. Losing money to theft is cheaper than a PR nightmare.”
Don’t get me started on culture. That music sure does paint a picture doesn’t it? And it sure isn’t a pretty picture either.
Gotta go FRiend, Conway Twitty is up next!
