The pastor of a northern Virginia church has apologized to his congregation for praying for President Trump when the president made an unscheduled stop at his church on Sunday.
Sometimes we find ourselves in situations that we didnt see coming, and were faced with a decision in a moment when we dont have the liberty of deliberation, so we do our best to glorify God, Pastor David Platt of McLean Bible Church in Vienna said in a statement to church members. I found myself in one of those situations.

It’s the South for God’s sake, what on earth are people being such wusses for?
Well think of the context who were the political authorities in the Pauls day?
Any pastor who apologizes for praying is focused on what man thinks of him rather than God.
EVERYONE MATTERS TO GOD, AND EVERYONE MATTERS TO US!*
*"Except for Donald J. Trump and anyone who voted for him. All prayers or blessings may be withdrawn based on selected social media algorithms. McLean Bible Church is an equal opportunity afterlife organization, and does not endorse in any way actual Bible teachings."
I hope the president is able to get a genuine prayer from someone near him this week instead of that crappy empty string of words from Platt.
Thank you!
Sounds to me like this pastor wants his 15 minutes of fame, and if he prioritizes that over his called duties, then I wouldn't want to be part of his church.
He apologizes for obeying God?
There’s a church to stay away from.
1 Tim 2:1-3: I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour
He's like every other cheap suit in a pulpit. He doesn't know the Bible. He only knows the gospel of a weekly paycheck, because if he didn't con the widows, he'd have to find a real job. Likely, something along the lines of serving fries at McDonalds.
“If you deny Me I will deny you..”
And all organized religion. I've had my fill for one lifetime, thank you.
This is an example of ONE area where the Catholic Church has an advantage over a lot of Protestant churches, in that it is NOT a democracy.
I’m sure this fellow’s backpedaling was the result of many of his NoVA congregants being Federally employed Swamp Creatures who would pressure the Board of Elders to terminate him via personal lobbying and withholding contributions.
Does not happen in my church (though when we get a corrupt Pope like the current one you can certainly see the other side of the coin).
I have friends whose son is a Baptist Minister. I was shocked to learn how political his job is. He has been let go from churches for sometimes petty reasons. In one instance an elder on the board had a relative who had just graduated from seminary and needed a job.
Platt did not apologize for praying for the President ... he simply clarified that his praying for Trump was not an endorsement ... and he was being respectful to those in his congregation that probably hate Trump as a racist, etc. ... and in N Va ... I bet there are many.
I have some severe differences with Platt and his theology ... but he is solid on the gospel and this tweet makes it clear that was his primary purpose in praying for the President.
I think this is a whole lot about nothing ... churches have split over far less ... he is being a pastor trying to keep those under his charge together ... but Satan fights dirty.
Go read the tweet ...
Many of you are jumping to a conclusion based on an article from the Washington Post.
There is Scripture that many will say to Him, “Lord, Lord.... and He will turn them away as workers of iniquity. We are told to enter through the narrow gate. I pray often for President Trump and his family. For their safety and happiness and for his administration in accordance with his agenda.
I do not like people who apologize after they take heat for what they said or did. That's the coward's way out.
Stand behind what you say or don't say to begin with.
Maybe in this case it was just a guy who was running his mouth before fully engaging his brain?
...trying to be charitable here
I read a headline later that said the his apologizing for praying to Trump was fake news and didn't really happen.
Who knows what to believe anymore.
