As the headline states, I'm looking to buy a very basic home stereo system with speakers, fm/am radio, and CD ability. I'm not tech savy, nor all that interested in delving into it, but I may not have a choice anymore. Most stereo systems sold today are intermeshed with Bluetooth. I have budgeted up to $250. for it, but hope I needn't go that high.
The model I own right now is that way, but I am able to use the CD player and the radio without going through a lot of intricate hooking up. I only plan to change because this current model is rather small, and does not provide a fuller sound of music. I'll listen to various CDs from Issac Hayes to my collection of Harp Concertos. I can tell somethings missing.
So is this just the way things are now? If you want a home stereo, you will have to deal with the fiddling it takes to connect with Bluetooth. I tried searching for 'Analog stereo systems' or 'Without Bluetooth', but it keeps coming up, unwanted, unbeckoned.
I received advice her on FR a few years ago, when I was seeking a radio with a physical Tuner knob for fm and am. I wasn't able to retrieve that posting to review for now, so here I am again. If all else fails, I'll just get one and mess around with it until I get some results. Same technique as usual. I was just hoping there was an easier more direct way to obtain what I prefer.
Thank you!
Just go on ebay and search for vintage stereo receivers, then narrow down by price/etc.
Good point.
I think any stereo store would have such a system.
Go into a store and tell them what you are looking for.
I think they have fancy stuff, but also basic system, as what you are looking for.
You are probably giving me some good advice. Confucius Say:The green Willow bends and survives.

It’s easy for me to advise others on their problems, but it doesn’t always work in reverse. Thanks.

If you try to buy a used setup, be sure to check it for functionality before you buy it. That is, plug it in, hook up speakers, try the buttons, etc.
And the comment about bluetooth is correct: you don't have to use it to run your system. Bluetooth is just a convenience you could use. In fact, if you ever decide to use some of the new bluetooth earbuds, it could be a boon for you.
I’ve been looking for something like that; most of my stuff is on MP3 now, but I’d like to play CDs and radio too.
My laptop is plugged into my 70’s era stereo along with a CD drive and Garrard turntable.
Hardly use the latter two since youtube has almost anything in my LP or CD collection.

Have you ever heard The Introit-Kyrie Requiem Op 48 by Gabriel Faure’, when accompanied by the children’s choir, or my other Faure’ favorite, the Pavane Op 50.?
Both have haunting and heavenly qualities.
Try it, you’ll like it!
As many have stated you can get a 80’s stero amp with separate tuner for under $100 on eBay. I have purchased a few Sanyos (Japan) from 1984 or 1985. You can also find stereo receivers. Might look for a late 80”s Onyko, Pioneer or Marantz. EBay is king for this.
