Full title:
Cat sparks $7,500 rescue mission after getting stuck on bridge six days; mission fails, pet gets bored and wanders home
Hatty, 5, became trapped on the Royal Albert Bridge, which connects Plymouth and Saltash, on Friday, and firefighters spent around five hours trying to get her down in an ordeal costing $7,500. The train system which operates the bridge even planned to close the tracks to rescue her, while the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) was also present.
But when firefighters had decided to give up for the day, vowing to return Thursday, the cat, who had been missing for two weeks before turning up on the bridge, returned home on Wednesday night, according to the Plymouth Herald.
Kirsty Howden, Hattys owner, said the cat walked into the garden of her home in Saltash.
She said the cat had just strolled past fire and media crews. ...
She is a bit skinny and smelly, very vocal and has now headed upstairs and put herself to bed.

Hello Friend, long time no see. I think your statement is perfect. I always say to a young person going out with a new person: see how they treat a restaurant server & someone in a store, how animals & kids react to them. Yes, our animals are our family.

The cat was obviously not in distress.
Cats can always get out of the high places they go to. That is the nature of cats, large and small.

I agree. But for me it’s not about compassion. It’s about the government enforcing that compassion with my tax dollars. It’s not in their swim lane.

“Its not in their swim lane.”
Sure, it is. Again, compassion is American.

We just disagree on that. Sure, compassion is human, not american. And it involves the government only when protecting human citizens and their property. How they treat their property is up to them, until it risks harm to other people and their property (i.e. building explosives in your bedroom or training a pit bull to kill, and letting it run loose).

What about using tax $ to save tweakers, criminals and other assorted losers, wasters and ne’er-do-wells? First responders are busy doing just that all day every day and night. Using tax dollars. A lot of animals are much more valuable to society and nicer than a lot of the scum that first responders - cops, firefighters, medics - risk their lives to save.
